The ht2148 sealed power lifter works. With the ford style dog bone and a .335 lobe lift the barrel does not come up far enough to hit the dog bone. This would become an issue if you added another .040-.050 lobe lift or more. Just more info.

Hmm, all the rollers we run are over .600 at the valve or around .380+ lobe lift so that likely won't work.

1994-03? 60° V6 lifter on base and full lift. Note this is with a Summit 2801 so the base circle is somewhat smaller.

Would a higher ratio rocker make up the difference? Of course, that doesn't help the affordability.

And what about the Olds 307 lifter mentioned earlier? Same diameter as Pontiac? Oil band in the right place? It seems it was dismissed earlier in the thread...

So, for a street car- (4/7 swap)cam- would this work nicely with the HT-2148 lifters? Still too much?

note this pic - see the oil hole and lifter main body sticking out? Compare that to the pic of the 60° V6 lifter. |

OK, there lies my confusion-

No, those are the bog-standard GM V8 lifter from 1987 to mid 2000's. There is a 1997-2000 454/502 that is similar to the V8 lifter but a bit shorter it seems.
I am tempted to order one and test fit. The main reason is Rhoads makes a bleed down version of it and I can run a nastier cam. |

lifters
the ht 2148 sealed power lifter works with the hr276 cam I have in my motor. I have not test fit it yet but I have an hr288 I'm going to try next. That last picture with the lifer with the oil hole above the bore looks like the ls7 lifters that I purchased. If they will grind the cam on a smaller base circle the ls7 lifters will work. One thing I will caution is that there are several manufacturers of lifters that use the same part number for small block and LS engines. They will interchange in the chevys with no issues but not the Pontiac. I also have some knock off 2148 lifters that also wont work. The only ones I know for sure right now that will work in my combo is the sealed power branded 2148 lifters. Again this is a cost savings and a reliability project but you must check everything out to verify it works. One thing I noticed that you really have to watch is I have 5 Pontiac blocks in the shop right now and there are several lifter bores that have a chamfer at the top of the bore and some do not. You have to look and measure the chamfered ones to make sure the oil hole is still covered.

I tested a full base circle roller cam I have and noted that the 60° V6 lifter does not come up far enough out of the bore to properly engage the dog bone at lowest level - only 80 thou sticks out, so I cannot use this solution.

I found this on rockauto today this is think outside the box can the engine tech RFC45416 work with some work. Same .842, a oil hole with no big scallop that can be exposed at full lift. If you drill the Rivets to remove the bbc link bar , it has the flat part of the upper part of the lifter for the dog bone system (replacing the link bar)and if needed look like you can shorten it a little. 24.99$ 2 lifter and link bar. I’m sorry I can’t post the photos. Maybe someone can help.

T Money- That's a great find! If the oil band isn't too large, that may just do the trick!
