Glass attachment to sash issues - Help
Having issues with installing rear qtr glass on sash of my 66 2+2 convt. The glass does not want to fit up tight to the rubber strip on top of the sash. I am using the material from Ames (PF569 Lower Sash Weatherstrip) along the top edge of the sash. I realize it is for a 65 but have not located anything else. The originals are hard plastic and mine were broken pieces. I've tried cutting the excess down and using thinner rubber at the bolt locations to get it closer no luck so far. The gap is wide enough I can put a knife blade between the glass and the rubber without touching it. I've considered putting a thick piece of rubber at the bottom edge of the glass to roll it over on the sash, but I'm afraid when I tighten the bolts to 50 inch pounds it might break.
Any suggestions? Last edited by Redpiston; 08-12-2016 at 08:01 PM. |

Thanks Wilshire. I looked at their website and did not find anything I thought would work.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the glass has to fit tight to the edge to prevent water from going between the glass and the sash. Of course by the looks of one of my sashes, it did not succeed. From what I see, this rubber seals to the glass and then the sweep on the body opening seals to it when glass is full up. |

My understanding is it wraps around the glass, I just looked at the parts car I got it wraps right around the glass. Both sides. Spaenaur sells the oil and non oil type in various thicknesses. The wiper seals (Steele rubber) meet the sash on both sides.

Nothing wraps around the glass across the bottom. Attached are photos of the original pieces. The item that I could not find direct replacement is the piece with V-notches cut into it for fitting to the contour of the sash. You can tell these were cut during assembly and they are hard plastic, not rubber. If you look in my first post I am using a rubber material that slips over the metal edge and has a 2 inch flag to go between the glass and the sash. It was not tall enough to reach the bolt holes. So I have trimmed it down and fabbed a piece similar to the original out of 1/16th rubber.

Now I am picking up what you are laying down. Not sure where you would find such an item but it looks like you may have it fabbed up
