That looks awesome! It's funny. I have a '64 Tempest Custom and wanted the original colors for my interior to go with my Grenadier Red exterior. I also got material from SMS. I am scheduled to take it to the upholstery shop in 3 weeks. My interior upholstery color scheme is exactly the same as yours. It makes me excited to get mine done. Thanks for sharing this thread.
PS, just re-read the entire thread. Are you going with manual or power disc conversion? Again-thanks.

Ummmmm. Yes they are. Well sort of.

PUI does make the Custom Interior covers for the front but the rear covers would need to be re-sewn to fit a convertible. I tried like heck to find a convertible rear seat cover to give PUI so they could reproduce them but I never had any luck.

That front seat looks awesome. I have my aqua covers still sitting in the box. I will be getting them done this summer I hope.

PUI makes tempest custom seat covers, but, they don't make them in red! They do offer blue, aqua and black. Black? What ever possessed them to make a non original color, but skip a popular color is hard to figure. I offered to send PUI my rear cover for a pattern but they were not interested. I saved the original cover if they change their mind.

giles,
Just curious. What paint are you using for the interior? Is it factory colors? The dash area looks like the factory burgundy (or maroon) and the rest looks like it is the medium (or Guard) red? Is it PPG? If so, would you mind sharing the color codes you came up with?
Thanks,
Tony

The colors look to be correct for a Tempest which has two tone rose / maroon interior trim rather than the solid red of lemans / GTO.
The material used was PPG Deltron.
The upper dash is 52777 new maroon
The lower dash is DBC 506785c wine poly
I am not sure how Nyle matched the colors. The upper dash paint can label also says "Toyota" so it may have come from a sample match. It looks like a really good match to my eye!

It’s been a long time since my last update! I’ve made some progress. Most of the interior is in (still waiting on SMS door panels). Side glass is in, bumpers are on. But then I moved. If you have ever moved mid-project you know how disruptive that can be. I am just now to the point of finding stuff and starting again. Still need windshield, top, wiring and some under hood plumbing such as trans cooler lines, fuel lines, exhaust etc.

Gilles the car looks sweet. I know the SMS route is not cheap at all. Did you send out your old door panels to them? Are you going to keep the door panels original?

To tempest 64 you might want to check out http://www.tcpglobal.com/Automotive-Paint/ for the dash.
my two tone dash paint went pretty well.

Good thing I’ve not been in a hurry! 4 years since my last post and still not complete! But it is all done except the convertible top. Material is on order and that last step should be completed in a couple weeks. I actually drove it for the first time today. Just around the block adjusting the carb and timing. Can’t wait for spring!

I’ll head off the 64-65 experts by agreeing that Marimba Red cars came with black wheels. This car had original wire hubcaps on it when we got it, and records, including a circa ‘70 photo indicate it always had the wires.
But Marimba Red with the caps and redlines just looks so darn good!

Other things causing delays; a second tear down, measure and rebuild of the engine. I found the original builder, who shall remain nameless, did a s#!+ job. So I ripped into it, measured everything, fixed a few mistakes, and reassembled.

OOF!! That sucks! I had that same problem when I had my 66 GTO. Unfortunately i didn't find out that was the case until after the car was finished and the problems started. I hope you were able to do that before the car was assembled. Nice looking car!!

Agree. Car is super sharp, great color combo, and you never, ever see real Tempest's anymore. Two thumbs up!

Finally done! (Are they ever really done?)
Have put a couple hundred miles on and overall works pretty well. I still have a few things to do but I am comfortable enough that I’d drive anywhere without worry, well except for rock chips!
I was going to go with a white top but my convertible top guy convinced me that “white tops look good on day one and not good every day after”, so we went with black which of course was the other original choice. Also went with steelies and poverty caps cause they look so darn good with redlines.
The formula wheel is temporary while I attempt to restore the original.
Bonus photo! The barn-find shot as it sat 20 years ago.
