Default Opinions on possible Rim change on '73 TA

I am having my '73 TA going in for a full repaint. Right now the car has an Aston Martin British racing green on it. For some reason the original owner changed the color Brewster Green from the factory to the current color. I'm having it painted back to the original Brewster Green.

The car currently has the Rally II rims which I love. However, I have seen some upper level resto mods use the huge snowflake wheel. I have to admit that the gold with the green seems to work together.

I am not a fan of the thin black wall tires of the bigger rim. I will always have a 60 series raised white letter tire. Here is what I need an opinion on. How do you think the Year One reproduction gold 15x8 snowflake rim will look with Brewster Green?

In addition, I'm having the rear leaf springs replaced with a Ride Tech bolt on 4 link rear and will add QA1 single adjustable coilovers.

Thanks,

Jim

I think they would look OK. I agree the gold color would look good with the green. Also would look good with the gold decals. However, if it were mine, I'd go with the '73 15" honeycombs if I could find them. Otherwise I'd stick with the rally's. JMO.

If I was set on that color combo,
I go with the YO honeycomb 17x9 wheels. Have them painted or powder coated gold and put 255/50/17 rubber on them. Lots of black sidewall in that tire size. Then yes you’ll need to put gold decals on the car to match.

I'm in a similar boat with my 74 that came with old man chromys that have to go...

I'd like something more modern looking like the 17" honeys but would have to get either the stick on or painted on white letters to pay homage to the '70s.

Personally hate gold anything but color is freedom.

A 73 brewster is so rare it would almost be sacrilege to change anything at all...lol

I really like the large diameter RallyII style aftermarket wheels on the early 2nd generation’s.
Brewster green is my favorite BTW. Gonna be a cool car no matter which wheels you choose.

Thanks for the responses. Not a fan at all of Honeycomb rims.

Here is a picture of the car as is appears right now in British racing green and Rally II's.

Also, here is a link of a green car with the big rim snowflake with the gold on the rim only. No gold on the rest of the car.

That car looks so good I'd be really hard pressed to change it.

Agree with Jhein.

Will be having a set of knockoff KR's made for my 73 BG 4spd project, just love the look of the small center 15" Rally IIs, & with me having the cores, a bunch less than picking up another clean set of real KRs.

The other look that just screams "Top of the World" on a 70-73 T/A are MotorWheel Spiders, 15x7's, 15x8's...expensive find though in top condition.

It's too bad that you don't like the Honeycomb rims, as I think the '76 gold's would look good. But, I also like these weird ones and think they would look great on a '73 BG Firebird.

Your car looks fantastic as is, I wouldn't change a thing. I also like the car in the video, maybe an extra set of rims and tires to swap occasionally?

That suggestion is a distinct possibility.

Roger,

Are you referring to the Gold Test mule for the SD 455 program and was available to the press core in June, 1972? It was setup like a race car with vents in the back of the trunk for the fuel cell.

I tried to find a picture of it and came up with nothing.

They look great. Mine have 235/55 mounted as they were on sale at DiscountTire and had 50,000 mile treadwear warranty with a W speed rating. Next set will be 255s though.

I agree 100%. The first SE built was in '73. It had Gold Honeys, and even
RGL Tires! They are still on the car, which got a SD in 72 and a 74 nose from Pontiac for the 74 auto show.

16x8 aluminum wheels from late 80's TA that have PONTIAC engraved in them .
Pretty much my favorite non stock wheel for a 2nd gen car.

A couple or few 70-73 cars have been in old HPP issues from the late 80s to mid 90s with those wheels. They look better on a car with tires on them.

About the only thing I would touch that car with would be a feather duster.
Think I would stay away from gold wheels unless it was a lighter shade of gold.
