Default 69 GTO Glasstek trunklid

Anybody else using one? My bodyshop isn't too happy with the fit. Big gap at the window side and the lid is high in the same area. How did you fix this?

The torsion rods have been removed, correct? Based on the pics you have; I would first take a section out of the hinge areas to solve the height problem. Get the best alignment with the latch and glass the pieces back in place with the lid down from inside the trunk. Weatherstrip in latch in place. Crawl through the back seat opening to get in and out. Let that cure for 24 hours. Then grind the edges (top and bottom) with 80 grit and taper them down about 2" in. Wash with Acetone and start adding chopped strand glass to extend the edges to fill the gap. You can do it on the car if you lay Saran Wrap in the gutter. The Saran Wrap will peel off when dry. Two layers on each side will do. Then rough grind to fit. For the final jam width, I use a paint stich wrapped in 80 grit for jams on Vettes. Don't use woven cloth, it will leave a texture in the final paint. Just like putting a Vette together.

Is this a race car or a resto? You might want to take the time to finish the inside of the lid. I assume it is rough from fiberglass fibers. If you prep it, you can lay on a few coats of Epoxy primer. Sand and block it until the fibers start showing, then skim coat it with filler and keep sanding. Eventually it will be smooth and once painted it will look like metal. It is a lot of work.

Thanks for the detailed response Hoov. Torsion bars are still on, I don't think these guys want to get that deep into it reglassing the whole thing. I will relay this, though. Not a racecar, just a driver

I doubt the lid is designed to use the torsion bars.

Default Update

I spoke with Glasstek and they say they all need tweaking and the spring/torsion bar has nothing to do with height. Adjustments are made without weatherstripping and shimming with washers. In my case they recommended shimming the hinge bolt closest to the bumper. This did not get the desired result. My body guy decided I was better off fixing my original steel lid. Gotta admit I was disappointed, it looked nice except for fit.
