Remove Door Hinge (Fender on Car)
My driver's side hinges need to be rebuilt but I don't want to remove fender. Also, is it possible to do this alone with a jack supporting the door and towel between front of door and fender to avoid damage and limit movement? My plan is to rebuild one at a time. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If your body & paint is in good shape, I think I’d pull the fenders. You may have heard of my #1 law.

How much rebuilding are you doing? Just pins and oversize bushings, or rollers and springs, too? I've done pins and bushings in the car before, but I'd pull body panels to go further than that.

Just pins and bushings, detent, and detent spring - detent and pin as well as spring is missing on lower hinge.

I don't know if you can remove the roller with the hinge installed. I have the same parts for my '67 Cutlass and I've been holding off until I get around to pulling the fenders.

Aside from scratching the paint - any other issues with attempting this?

Not that I can think of... hopefully somebody who's done it will chime in. I used a floor jack with a board under my door to support it when I did the pin and bushing replacement (one at a time). This was on a '77 Trans Am.
