Thanks. I could see how maybe you’d get a better seal that way. I’ll be sure to do that. They do look very quality I must say. I’m impressed for the money.

I found my core support in storage. I had one radiator mount that was in rough condition but usable, and another one that was pretty much shot. I can weld a “U” channel piece to the top of it and keep the angle correct at least. Maybe I can salvage that much out of the bad one.

Here’s a pic of the better one. Isn’t the one for the other side supposed to be the flipped over or reverse image of this one? The second one I have happens to have the exact same base to it. Maybe I should make a want ad for a pair and hope somebody has some.

Btw- are these other brackets used on the bottom to help secure the radiator too? I don’t have those and the restoration guide is pretty vague with the pic. This ad seems to show them screwed to the bottom. Also, I did order the little insulators for the top and bottom radiator brackets. They seem so hit/miss with ‘68 fitment no matter what source they come from, hopefully they work.

Not sure what those two little brackets are for ... didn't have them on mine that I ever saw.

I can't remember if the mounts can be swapped sides, they have that little tab that locates them in a hole/slot but I can't remember if the support (or at least my repop) had addition hole/slots so the mounts could be used on either side.

I'm working in that area tonight so I'll crawl under and see if I can tell from the bottom. Course my repop might be different than OEM .. (hehe "might" be different). I do remember I did a lot of F'ing around with those mounts to get everything in the right place.

Regarding the small brackets you pointed out. Looking at the assembly manual, they are used to retain the bottom of the 69 fan shroud.
Not used on the 68

Both 9790744 brackets mount the same way on either side. The rubber insulator is 4" long.

I have not found a source for the correct upper insulators for these big radiators. AFAIK they are not reproduced. Let us know if they are the correct ones.

I definitely appreciate anything you might see under there tonight. Heck, 75% of the posts I’ve saved here are ones started by you digging deep into the “correct” reassembly process. Don’t be surprised if I dig up random topics of yours as I try to hit this hard and complete things enough to hit the road soon. Haha

The “remains” of the brackets I found on my support look just like yours in those pics. Both the same with the same mounting orientation. Thinking about your reply in my WTB post… I measured the Mark7 radiator I have when I got home to refresh my memory. I believe it’s a 2 Row 1.25” so the row number designation doesn’t really pertain I guess. The “tank” portions on either side measure roughly 3.25”. The spacing between the brackets appears to locate the insulators where they’d just barely grab onto the tank portions. Does that sound correct? I don’t have another A Body parked next to it anymore to check (replaced by my wife’s next Plymouth E-Body project so no help there lol).

OG68 ... where did you get that lower radiator seal? I haven't been able to find one, yours looks like it's original.

Entropy .. OG's photos show pretty much what I was going to take a picture of, the holes and slots the mount goes in, on the repop I had to elongate some of those holes to get the spacing of mounts close to correct.

I'm not sure if the factory used nuts, clip-nuts, welded nuts etc. in several of these locations but I ended up installing rivet-nuts in various places on the repop to ease assembly since they don't show anywhere.

After repairs the mount close to the upright looked like this:

If I find one more bracket I should be able to get mine lolling just like that. My old support used those exact locations so all checks out.

I think my lower seal is OE if you need some pics to compare. I’ll dig it out.

That's the original seal Data. Let me know if you need any measurements.

The bracket mounting is with a sheetmetal screw. 5/16-10 x 11/16,
No nuts or clip-nuts.

That explains it ... I don't think I was liking the way the screw fit that hole so I replaced it with a rivet nut.

Presently I have a section of garage door seal I plan on using ... sorta similar in cross section but won't have the ability of the OEM seal to open up and seal tighter when the air blows in from the front ... which I assume is why the OEM seal uses that "hinge" in the rear of the seal.

How about those seal clips ... same as the ones that hold the cowl seal?

Come to think of it ... wonder if a cowl seal could be cut down in the length to work there.

Data- the seal I have is essentially an “L” shape with the bottom leg being 7/8” and the upper being 2.25” (measured from inside the L to not account for thickness). The thickness is maybe a touch on the heavy side of 1/16”.

It appears as though they molded it a little more in a “V” shape as the inside and outside of the bend are more of a radius than a sharp angle, but I don’t think you’d ever be able to tell it apart from a garage door seal cut to the same dimensions. The total length of mine is 26-7/8”.
