Exhaust tips for my 68 GTO clone wagon
Folks,
I'm just about done with re-routing the exhaust system on my wagon to having the tailpipes exit under the rear bumper rather than in back of the rear wheels. It was a matter of buying Flowmaster 2 1/2" tailpipes for a GTO, making a few cuts and re-welding so the pipes would run under the frame rails. I talked to numerous people that said the system would hang too low, but if you look at the back of a 71 GTO with the dual splitters, those tailpipes run lower than the frame rails too. Mine are just shifted about another inch to the inside (away from the side gas tank and spare tire well). You really don't notice it unless you get down on your hands and knees. I'm also installing aluminum heat shields on each side, though not sure they are really needed. Again, can't really see them unless you are under the car. So, now I'm trying to decide what to use for exhaust tips. I'm open for suggestions. I'm kind of even thinking of maybe using the Pypes dual tips for the 71 GTOs. Suggestions are welcome, but I would like them to be stainless and looking at least somewhat period correct. Later Dudes Old Joe
