Do you have any photos of the 401 bottom end? I need more specifics, what rod length, bore & stroke. Any block fill, billet caps, lifter brace?

Does this motor have a forged crank now or just when it was in the tractor? Cast main caps? What is the camshaft?

Jack, I will take the 9 M/T 2014-alloy rods, unused, a little surface corrosion to polish off $200. They make nice garage "Lamp Stalks" for Hot Rod Pontiac Guys.

PM me payment info.

Tom V.

Crank is stock casting (1968?), merely balanced. Stock iron 2-bolt caps. Cam is an ancient (1958) Crane hydraulic 438C. Lifters are old GM anti-pump-ups. With it as-is, unblown, with alcohol injection it made good power to 7,200 rpm.

Tom- The rods are yours, although I wish they would be utilized for other than lamps! My blown alky 401 used them for a full one and a half seasons, usually to 8,300 rpm, making about 750 HP. Twenty-series alloys were developed by the British during WWII, named 'Duralumin' with ~4% copper. 2014-T6 has a yield strength of ~60 ksi (7075-T6 is 72 ksi). A huge number of these rods survived fuel dragster abuse in the early sixties.
Send me a PM with a zipcode, for shipping cost.
Let me know if you prefer picking them up at Norwalk.

Pardon my ignorance but what is a 401? Not familiar with that size? Also would you be willing to ship the engine?
