Default My ‘66 GTO

When I was shopping a couple years ago, posted here on opinions of a car I found. I did not buy that one, but did end up getting a ‘66 out of Chicago, shortly after that. I flew out and made a deal, then drove out the following weekend and hauled it home.. I live in Snohomish, Wa, so it was a nice road trip. This was June of 2020.

The car has a 389, tripower, 4 speed. Came from the factory with a 4 bbl. When bought, the prior owner had a 2.93 safe-t-track from a ‘67 GTO. The purchase also included the original 3.55 rear end.

I finally found time to get the original rear end installed last weekend. Much nicer to drive now.

I also managed to pick up a set of aftermarket chrome Rally II wheels to replace the dark Torq Thrust.

The car runs great, drives well, and I get it out as much as possible.

Nice! I bet that 3.55 rear end really made it come to life. Also, you can't just leave us hanging without photos! We need proof, or it didn't happen.

I live nearby, so maybe I'll have the opportunity to see it at an event someday.

Think I figured out the picture stuff.
Here is as I bought it.

With the newer wheels and tires.

And installing the 3.55 last weekend. The tractor came in handy for that.

Very nice! Looks like it's in good shape. I like the dark blue paint color.

Beautiful car, but IMO, looks much better with the Torque Thrusts and not all jacked up in the rear. But to each his own. Also prefer the 2.93 gear to the 3.55, but I drive on the highway. Again, beautiful car and killer color.

Same suspension in both pictures. Stock springs and AC Delco shocks. The picture with the rally wheels was taken parked on a hill, and a grassy shoulder. Looks fairly level on flat ground.
I felt the dark Torq Thrust wheels got lost next to the dark paint. Also , the front wheels were newer American Racing, 15x8, and the rear had old Micky Thompson’s, 15x6. They were different enough in shape and size to bug me.

Your car, your call to make YOU happy with it. No matter what, your car is a knockout so you 'win'!

I have a twin to your car. Have 15's on rear and 14's on front.
