Quadrajet 17058263 Base Plate
With many restorations sometimes encountering a hodgepodge of parts thrown together, my early build ‘79 Trans Am SE W72 Y84 4-Speed car no different - an auto trans Quadrajet where it should be a 17058263 carb, which I have located.
Question is the carb base plate attached to the auto trans carb. Looks right, but only marking I can see is “1338” on the side of the base plate, as shown. Have not been able to locate a reference, other than pics and nothing referencing those four numbers. Kindly advise on your thoughts. Thanks so much. |

Cars sold as 79's had to meet 79 emissions.
That said.. I'm thinking all 79 base plates had capped-off/plugged idle mixture screws. Clay |

I looked at two 263 carburetors today. Neither one has any type of number stamped like yours. I suspect that number was stamped at some point be a carburetor rebuilder.

Agreed. Correct base plates for the 17059263 carb do have capped idle mixture screws, as shown below.
This depicted carb, is one that I found in MI, and is for an earlier build 1979 car - the code is 1538, meaning this carb was produced on the 153rd day of 1978 or June 2, 1978, a Friday that year. For my car, that was built in November 1978, this carb, that has been sitting on a shelf for many years, seemed a likely paring, so I purchased it and it’s now being restored, the missing choke to be added. |
