Power Window switch console mounting template
I ordered in an aftermarket power window switch and would like to mount it in the correct location on the new console so it is correct for 79.
Does anyone have a template for the location and the correct hole size. Thank you. |

This would be interesting if anyone has anything. I looked once before as mine is mounted towards the rear of the space. I'm not sure if originals or repros ever had markings on the inside but even used originals seemed to vary in how far forward or backwards they were mounted. You can see the gap between the shifter bezel on autos and start of curve for armrest and seems no real pattern. Do a google search on interior photos or used consoles for examples. But still interested in if there was an official measurement, followed or not. Couldn't see anything in the GM manuals. You may also need the retainer insert that the switch clips into, may work without but be loose depending on the clips, or padding thickness.

Thanks Trevor78,
I asked about the retainer when I purchased the repro switch and was told by the seller that the switches dont have a mounting retainer. There are clips in the back that are supposed to hold it in place. This why I went to this thread for help and am asking about hole size. I am sure that there is a tight margin for error to have those clips work so the switch fits in tight. Also with the rear switch configuration it is hard to generate a hole template off the switch itself. |

There is a retainer for this kind of like the ones for the power locks in the door panel.
I'll look in the attic and see if I have an extra console up there to use for a template.

Yes, appears some earlier console used the ring insert, others didn't, not sure.
My console is a reproduction that was already cut, also features the insert which appears to be an original GM piece possibly from the original console it replaced, likewise it didn't come with one as had to be cut. Many pics of used consoles simply show cut openings, so not sure. Maybe some repros even came with one to use as a template and then install, but I'd don't know of it. Here's a used original retainer, mine has the ends removed when installed on new console. It could be due to different thicknesses, but works without. Hole is also very snug which may not be the same on some. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16377325...53.m1438.l2649 Last edited by Trevor78; 05-08-2022 at 09:22 PM. |

I'll resend. The measurements off it are still not precise. Lots of guys on this forum may have the answer, but decided not to contribute.

Simply says a measurement of 33.58 back for centre of switch hole. The template is to suit the retainer, so I guess now you'll want the retainer inner size if not using one.
