I was under the impression that the 76 455's had about the same output as 77 400. The 76 L75 (which replace the HO) was rated at 200hp. '77 L78 was 180hp and the w72 was rated at 200hp

I believe the W72 in 1978 was 220 hp. When I had my 1978 T/A W72 Gold Edition, it was a screamer. I opened the scoop, removed the catalytic convertor, jetted the carb and put in a quicker advance curve and the car responded very well. It ran as fast or faster than a lot of the muscle cars a lot of my friends had. It had 20,000 miles on when I bought it in 1982. It was a fantastic running car. I wish I would have kept it.
