I used stock type bulbs everywhere on my car. Dash is a bit dim compared to what I look at with my modern car but it does the job just fine. I know some guys that have put in led's and said they were a bit too bright.
I bought an led for my dome light (have yet to install it) from a company called super bright led's. I got the link from somebody on another forum but the service was great. Forget if they were amazon or ebay but they have just about every led bulb you would ever need. |

Another thing to consider for dash lights is I have yet to find dimmable LED bulbs, so if they are to bright you are stuck with the bright lights.
I used Sylvania 194 SilverStar Mini Auto Bulb's they are about 50% brighter than stock, and are still dimmable.

For reference My 68 GTO with the cheapest LED from Amazon The traditional is not as bright as the picture appears, the 194 are NOT bright when your used to a newer vehicle. Works for me, I rarely use the car at night. Not dimmable. Not permanent or expensive |

I purchased 194 LEDs from Rock Auto, Phillips brand for my 1976 Firebird. I have not had it out at night yet as I am finishing up my power lock addition. I should be done this week. I am looking forward to a brighter dash at night. I am putting in LEDs in the whole car. Not sure what I want to do for headlights yet.

There's certain places where a brighter Led doesn't put out as much light depending on type, often those that reflect a regular bulb around the housing that sees none of the Led light. You may have to play with a few to get look you want without hotspots of brightness.

I know a lot of people are satisfied with just painting the metal cluster with silver paint to increase reflect-ability.
