I've heard that comparison brought up before, but I don't know if anyone has ever actually looked at them side-by-side together. It's possible that someone has, though.

I contacted the seller to see if they’ll fit first gen firebird. Seller says they do. Anyone here have any experience with what fits first gen and second gen F-body? Although they allow returns, shipping is on the buyer plus a 20% restock fee. They look pretty nice in the pics. I wish I had more confidence in the fitment.

Hard to tell looking at their online pics... But I can't picture them clearing tie-rods on a 1st gen bird.

I am all about buying usa made things, but i had to bite on these. Flanges are true. Tig welds are nicely done, primary ports are clean with no booger's. Finish overall is beautiful. I will upgrade the header bolts and gaskets, but these had them included. If anyone wants a pic i will post a few. Install should come here in the next week or so. I will update this thread with pics and hiccups i come across at that time.

Have to agree,
After receiving them, Impressed with the TIG welding and finish.
came with bolts, collector adapters and some pretty thick metal sandwiched gaskets.
Although the gaskets were a bit bent up.

Maybe with some work they can be modded to fit my 73 T/A with SD 455 power.

Got a good deal on the Hooker "GTO" super comps years ago and managed to make them fit with some mods. These would sure look nicer if they can be modded / made to work.

Will be following with interest on how your install goes.

Bought a new set of "open box" round port stainless headers for use on my engine stand. Beautiful construction and they fit great with all bolt holes lining up without any grinding. Paid a flat $100 and for use on the break-in stand they are great. They have turned a really pretty gold color that might bother someone if in a car, but I don't care for my purpose.

What I thought was a little weird was that the header gaskets are made wrong also. No big deal just seemed funny.

Merry Christmas!

I wish somebody made a nice shorty or mid-length round port street diameter header for ’68-72 A bodies. Maybe this is a business opportunity I’m still waiting on my RARE o/s manifolds.

I installed these headers today. So to install, i had to elongate the farthest end holes on both side. I just used a die grinder with a carbide bit to chew it out a bit. The holes needed 1/8 per to get the bolts in. Also i think this is normal for most car regardless of header brand, but i had to remove the oil filter block. Another thing is my car had the brake proportioning valve located on the side of the frame. Header contacted that. I was able to unbolt it, and massage it up and over so it sits on top of the frame. I then made a small flat plate to remount it. I did not have to make new lines. I used the supplied stainless header bolts, and Butler gaskets. Besides my little sidetracks, the cheap bastards fit well. The exit straight back, and hang level with one another. Everywhere on my car i have 3/16 inch of clearance. I did not and will not have to clearance any tubes. Fullsize delco starter slid right back in, and so did the filter block. No sweat. No hammer or torch action. I am really surprised. I got lucky perhaps. If anybody needs any pictures of something certain. Let me know. I will be building the rest of the exhaust tomorrow. Thanks

If all you had to do was elongate a few holes in the flange, that's pretty great. Just for the sake of curiosity, I for one would love to see some photos. This example is a great data point for anyone else with a similar car.

To the OP,

I have a stupid question for you ,but I seem to have missed what car you put them on. All I could ascertain is they don't fit 2nd gen birds. Did you put them in the 72 GTO in your sig?

Thanks,

Jim

I have the OBX ones. I have the Dougs as well. An exact copy. Tested back to back on the dyno and not much difference in power. Well worth the money in my opinion. I had to elongate a couple of the holes to get them to fit my HO heads.

Yep! Again i would rather buy usa made but these cannot be beat. I have read header install horror stories. Most of the mods i had to make was due to my car being a column shift car.

Do you mind sharing what you had to do to accomodate the column shift? I've been told that the Doug's or similar headers won't work with a column shift. You may have an advantage with a '72 over my '67, but I'd like to explore all options.
Thanks,
Chris

Oh yeah for sure. I used a kit from shiftworks.
The one i attached is what i used. Quality stuff, i was able to ditch all the silly oem linkage and its works great. Indicator and all works as it should. Took about 45 min to install. Clears headers with ease.

If anybody cares what an old ho racing hc-02 cam, headers, 3" full exhaust and dynomax ultra-flows sounds like coming out the ass end of a ratty post gto. Aka "billygoat"

Wow my OBXs were maybe $200 a few years ago! only issue I saw was the outer bolt holes needed massaging-but then Ron's Tribal Tubes flanges did too.
