Default Underhood and Trunk light install

My 72 did not come with either. I bought a used underwood light and new trunk light(from Ames).
Where does the underwood light get power from?

Will the wiring connector for the trunk light already be there or do I need to pick up power from somewhere? I seem to remember reading the trunk light gets power from the dome light

thanks

I'm not sure off the top of my head about the underhood lamp.

Regarding the trunk lamp, assuming the 72 is the same as 70, the plug is already part of the harness that goes by the left trunk hinge and you should just need to untape it and plug it in.

Pics show where the under hood lamp and switch were mounted on my 72 and where the power feed wire goes through the firewall. I can’t remember 100% but I think the power wire plugged into the fuse panel.

Where the wire is going through the firewall in Ray's picture, that is the 'accessory' grommet and hole which may not have been drilled on your car.

If you want to add it, there is a dimple there to locate it and you can drill it to proper size with a step drill and put in the grommet. The hole and grommet were added when certain accessories like cruise control were added, in order to get the extra wires passed through.

If your car is fully assembled then adding the hole will be a challenge as the fender or dash will be in the way.

Thanks guys, that's a big help. I do have the accessory grommet. What would be a good powersource from the fuse panel?

I think there is at least one blade terminal available on the fuse block that is labelled BATT and hot all the time that you could use.
