I received my quotes from American Powertrain and Modern Driveline. Still waiting on Silver Sports.
The cryo treatment would be a nice option for piece of mind on the TKX but it’s an extra $1040 to the price and I’m not sure it’s completely necessary at my current power level (680hp-700hp). A 985 lb/ft capacity does provide piece of mind though. I’ll have to contemplate that one a bit more as in the future I could see 900-1100hp happening with a Vortech or turbo. My quotes came back $2000-$3000 more than the $5100 I saw referenced in this thread. I do like the twin disc clutch options offered by both vendors (Centerforce and Tilton). I’ll probably just go with one of the all inclusive packages but I’m curious as to where people saved money? Bellhousing? Different hydraulic clutch and TO bearing? Clutch? Input is appreciated

Mine was at the FedEx distribution center 20 miles from my house and it took them 4 days to finally deliver with updates everyday saying, "By end of day" for each day. Then when I finally received it the input shaft was sticking out the end of the box with concrete imbedded in the end....I'm working with APT to get another. I must point out that APT takes pictures of every outgoing box, which means it happened in the hands of FedEx.

I save money several ways. I'm not a hydraulic clutch fan so I don't use any of that stuff. That's one way. I just prefer mechanical linkage and done. If converting an auto car, most all that stuff is available and not overly expensive. I usually don't do, or need, fancy clutches either. A simple single disc is fine for most of what I do here. If you're way up in power level that's a different story though. I also use stock bellhousings, since I like mechanical linkage anyway. Occasionally depending on the intensions of the car I might go with a blowproof that adds to the cost but that's a case by case basis. The new TKX is more expensive than the previous TKO's. $2200 vs $2800 now so there's part of the problem. Usually on swaps I'm only asking for the trans, a speedo cable adapter, a reverse light plug, a shifter, and a cross member if I don't want to modify the current one. That's about it. I have driveshafts made here locally because it's cheaper and I trust the guy, and most times I can just get away with buying a 26 spline clutch disc and reuse the pressure plate if I'm already dealing with a stick car. |

Are you guys running the hydraulic clutch linkage set-up or mechanical linkage set-up?
Manual linkage saves like $750 - $1000'ish off the total

I probably have $400.00 in my set up and it works perfect. Very easy pedal effort.

I ended up going to Cookeville TN and picked up my new trans right from APT after my shipping fiasco, I happened to be in the area. I will be putting in my car next week.

Never had a problem with the mechanical linkage and Muncie in the '67 GTO so kept it for the Tremec and it continues to work flawlessly.

So is the slip yoke for a TKX the same as a turbo 400?

The TKO/TKX is basically a Ford knockoff. They swapped out input shafts and main housings to fit GM and/or Mopar and of course the Ford application is a direct fit. All the speedo stuff is Ford too.

Don't let that cat out of the bag Frankie, you'll have Pontiac loyalists pulling those Tremecs out of their cars

Actually, the predecessor, the T5, was made by Borg Warner for Ford and GM. Tremec bought out Borg Warner sometime around 97 I think, sometime close to when the T56 was introduced, and continued T5 production as well as introducing TKO to the market. They basically improved and strengthened the design, and the overdrive swap craze took off.

Sure about what? You might have misunderstood what I was trying to convey. I didn't mention the T45. Mainly because it was made by Borg Warner for a very short time and replaced by Tremec with the 3650. Hardly worth mentioning. They all look very similar but The T5 was around before that, through the 80's in Mustangs and Camaros both. Still survives today with it's own aftermarket cases and gear sets. |

That the predecessor is the T5 rather than the T45...
