Well glass man called. All the regulators and everything are in and all he has to do is wire it up and adjust all the glass. Hoping it will be ready next week instead of the month I was quoted. He said everything was in better shape than he anticipated so it didn’t take as long.

Well I know this seems ass backwards but there is method to my madness. Car will be leaving glass shop this week and going to stereo shop. It is VASTLY cheaper to have the speakers and amp installed with no interior installed then coming back and revisiting that later in the game. I am dropping the front seat off to be recovered so I have something to put my ass in and then I will plumb the fuel system and check for leaks. Once I have a leak free fuel system then I will wire up the sniper and hit the key and see what happens.

You're almost there. But, when you do go to fire it up for the first time, have a fire extinguisher handy just in case.

Yep, always have an extinguisher at the ready for a first start, and maybe also a blanket and/or rag to put out carb/throttle-body fires. Also be sure to check for leaks along the full length of the entire fuel system from stem to stern. I plan to keep an Element Extinguisher in my car at all times. They're more costly than standard bottle type extinguishers, but they are much smaller and won't wreck everything in the car if you actually need to use it like the bottles can.

Better make sure it's Halon!!! You do NOT want to discharge a conventional, powder chemical, fire extinguisher on your car!

That's why I recommended the Element Extinguisher "sticks". Similar to a halon bottle, the sticks use gas to starve the fire of oxygen and not powder chemicals that will damage everything they touch. And they require no servicing, have no expiration date, and can easily be stored in a center console, etc. due to their small size.

So #1 lesson I have learned, take your dream car, look at prices, budget for it, then multiply by 3, tear that estimate up, and add double to it ��

Can confirm. I planned about $40k for my restoration, and after adding up literally every receipt I have so far, I'm over double that amount and have not even built an engine. It also depends on your starting point, though, and I knowingly started with a rusty car that I wanted to save for sentimental reasons.

It's always much, much less expensive to buy an already restored car.

Or, do what I did, and buy used 15 year old cars that nobody else wants because they're gas hogs. My '65 GTO with factory tripower and a 4 speed cost me a whopping $1200 in 1982, and my '67 GTO convertible set me back $1800 a year later. Back then, these were old, gas-hog, used cars. I loved the power and the practicality of a lot of room for friends and luggage. The years went by, both cars got engine paint refreshes, but were never out of service or not driven. I've got a total of about $8,000 invested in the pair. The drawback is you have to be an old guy like me to have been at that time and place in the first place!! You were just being born, IIRC!

geeteeohguy...I was around then but in NY you weren't getting a GTO for that kind of coin and if you did it would've been real rusty. In '81 I bought a 66 OHC Tempest post for $200(still have the engine in the barn), a 67 Tempest for $100(restoring that now), and a 67 Lemans for $100(still have some of those parts).
