Question on trim tag interior code (on trim tag)
I was looking at an ebay ad for a red (code actually says it's a Burgundy color car) 67 GTO. It showed the trim tag on the firewall, and the code for the interior color was "223-S". I've seen "223-B" and just plain "223", but never an "S".
Car is a "P" car (made in Pontiac MI factory) Anyone know what it means? Just wondering.... Dave

Not saying its the same, but this is from the Chevelle Stuff website
The third information line contains the abbreviation TR (for Trim) followed by a 3-digit number, a hyphen, and a letter indicating the seat type and color. The letter "A" indicates a bench seat, the letter "B" indicates a bucket seat, and the letter "S" indicates head rests. http://www.chevellestuff.net/tech/ar...gs/tt_1967.htm

I looked through my '67 Brochures and everything seat-related mainly uses number codes, didn't see any letter S. ??

The "S" for head rests makes sense. I do know that 235-c is for a black bench seat interior. And as far as trim tags go, I believe the consensus is that different plants used the tags as they saw fit...some used suffixes after the trim code, others did not.
As some of you know I do casual "paint and trim spotting" as a weird hobby for 67 GTO's. (Initially to get an idea of the popularity of colors available that year). The car in question did show quite a few options in the picture of the billing history card. I don't have the billing history card decoder ring for those codes. (I used to rely on a nice website 67GTO.com (or something) that had all those codes. But they took it down a long while ago. I wish that person would release the website to the wild and let someone take it up.) Thanks for the responses! Dave

572 = HeadRests with Bench 578 = Recliner Bucket with HeadRests Great observation and clarification on the Trim Code Suffix - S Don't think i have ever caught that one before Have a 67 GPrix parts car here that was a HeadRest Bucket car. Will try to remember to check that trim tag sometime , for an S |

Like Dave and the Chevelle website mentioned; not all assembly plants stamped their trim tags the same.

oooh , now we even have an R-code
What if a car was Bucket-Headrests-Electric Driver Seat wonder if that got its own code too ? Or would that just fall back under the S-Code (the 67 GP parts car was Bucket-Hrests-Electric Driver ,,, which may not even be coded at all on the Tag - but made me ask the question) Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 12-02-2021 at 08:38 PM. |
