Default Dash Paint

I have a 68 GTO, black interior and the dash needs repainted. I used paint from the auto parts store and the existing paint wrinkled badly when the newer paint was applied. So, am I using the wrong paint? I remember someone posting a place that would put original paint in a spray can for this type of application.

Also, the chrome piping around the instrument cluster, radio and glove box area is faded and dull, any ideas on how to refresh it? Or is there an aftermarket replacement for this? This is the area where the woodgrain is in.

I appreciate any help, thank you.

The 68 Instrument cluster housing is now reproduced and sold by our hosts:
Part# A272VD $439 for 3 piece set.
If you want to freshen up the plastic chrome or your existing some have used the Molotow Liquid Chrome markers and spray paint with some success, but it's not quite as good as the true plastic chrome.

I used Automotive Touchup, they will put your color in spray cans and sell you regular paint:

They will also make single stage or base/clear, whichever suits your needs.

I painted my interior doors with Ames interior paint and you need to apply vinyl prep solution and a vinyl dye adhesion promoter prior to applying the interior paint. The Ames catalog pg. 24 should have all the stuff you need. 1-800-421-2637
