Correct 69 350 firebird front pulley bracketry part numbers
Hi everybody. Like some people this car has also lived a shady life but unlike some people I can fix this thing. I’m currently trying to square away the front pulley situation. I’d like to find a good original water pump pulley as mine is an offshore unit. My assembly manual is no good for part numbers as it’s a copy of a copy so basically useless as far as correct part numbers. I was also curious if you know if my power steering situation is correct looking at least, I believe it’s functional although I’ve never driven this thing. I think I’m missing an alternator bracket also. Appreciate the input fellas.

Need to know if your car has AC or not in order to help you get the correct pullies.

11 bolt pump. 2 and 5/8 “ pulley height. This pulley of diameter is correct worked. I’d just prefer the factory part.

All '69 Pontiac V8's originally used the "351" casting 4" hub height water pump. Ames now sells a reproduction of it. Completing a very serious restoration, original dated casting "351" waterpump cores are out there, & eventually... one will come avail that will date tighter than one of the repro casting pumps. Currently, have over sixty original '64-74 model year Pontiac V8 wp cores in stock to rebuild. Also have a few freshly rebuilt pumps, but again am out of '69 "351" casting cores. Get a few each year to rebuild, & they sell fairly quick.
1970 model Pontiac waterpumps began to be cast in late July of '69 for '70 model Pontiac V8's. these were the first TALL (4.5") hub height 11 bolt water pumps. Last 3 digits "124". On production line vehicles, the "124" casting pumps & associated tall 1970 wp pulleys first were installed on mid August of '69 built 1970 model A & B bodys & '70 GP's. As a service procedure, Pontiac put out a service bulletin suggesting the replacement of the '69 water pumps with the slightly taller '70 water pumps along with the corresponding '70 model tall wp pulley. This was a service procedure only, not how '69's were originally built. There is a bunch of vendor advertising BS out there about '69 1/2 pulleys....& that is total BS. One will not find a production "124" wp cast before late July of '69. Have had multiple dozen early "124" casting pumps that I have personally pulled. Not by coincidence, Pontiac Central Foundry cast a bunch of F (July) of '69 dated "351" casting water pump housings. On a '69 V8 Firebird, it should originally have a 4" hub height pump, the very late builds used up many of these July casting "351" pumps. That is what I ran across decades ago when first sourcing original 9796351 '69 model water pump cores to rebuild as well as original '69 usage pulleys & brackets, often off '69 Birds that had made it into boneyards in the mid to late '70's. With factory PS, & a short 11 bolt wp, the wp pulley needed will be an 8" diam "060". Crank pulley will be a two groove "846". PS pulley as factory installed on a no AC '69 car will be a "900". Can ck in the rack later today what I have for '69 wp pulleys. Have several clean "900" PS pulleys.

Typo.... F is not July, tapping the keyboard too quickly.
Latest "351" casting pumps I've had were cast in late F (June) of '69

Based on the 1/28/70 Pontiac Service Bulletin AND 11/1/69 Parts Catalog AND 7/1/71 Parts Catalog AND 11/1979 Parts Catalog the 69 Firebird V8 always used part # 9797581 (which is pumps with casting # 9796351 on them). The Full size Pontiac, Tempest, GTO, and Grand Prix were to have their OEM casting # 9793651 pumps replaced with an updated pump part # 478126 (casting # 9799124). When this was done, the pump pulley would be updated to the new # 9799127 w/o AC (# 9799130 w/AC). In this situation, this new pulley offset would cause the belts to properly line up with the alternator, P/S pump, and A/C if equipped. You would not change these pulleys. So... if your engine is a 69 and your alternator and p/s pump are also "69" you may want to reconsider replacing your p/s pulley as I believe you will have alternator belt alignment issues. "Pump pulley" 9799127 and 9799130 are referring to water pump pulley, NOT P/S pump pulley... just to clarify.
