A numerically higher ratio is always weaker because the drive gear has to be smaller pitch diameter. Transmitting a given torque thru a smaller diameter gear results in a higher tangential load; which is the thing that is trying to break the teeth off.

Agree 100% with the above statement.........but you can completely rebuild a Muncie or BW T-10 with a hammer, adjustable wrench, screw driver and pair of snap ring pliers. Try that with a Tremec? They require special holding fixtures, a press and all the bearings are basically one time use because of the plastic cages. Tremec is a super nice trans when in 1 piece.
