How "top shelf" are you aiming for? Given all the cars out there with re-pops, clean used ones that are ripe for restoration should be fairly easy to find?
Nice problem to have

I bought a new one from Ames with the Delco-Moraine stamping on it.

Bought a repro, it didn’t last long. I won’t waste any money on one again.

Yes, I wish there was a way to better preserve the finish. 15 years ago I bought a mint core from Steve Gregori. I sent it back for replating some years ago and it needs to be done again.

Do you have the old one? Check if it has a Delco stamp on it .. many of the as delivered originals did not, I think most of the OEM parts counter replacements did.

I think most of the vendors get them from the same place. Lots of them installed and trouble free for many years.

Just pulled the original off my Arlington and it was plain .. only a 56K mile car too. Thread on it in the 68 forum ... seems random with/without. I went ahead and saved the $20 and replaced it with another no-stamp.

If you still have the original and the cup seal is good (between MC and booster), consider using the old one, the reproduction boosters use a different type (at least mine did) that doesn't seal the gap between the MC and booster ... it's just a rubber washer that goes down in the booster cavity. The OEM piece seems much more robust.

If you want really correct ... bear in mind they are date coded and have application codes in some cases.

I've used Steve Gregori in the past and have been satisfied with his products. Hopefully this is a smooth transition and continues as a quality service.

Jeez, only $285 to restore an original ... seems very reasonable, I was expecting about $400. Might have to send my original out and use the repop in the meantime.

Depends on the condition of the booster you send in, the polishing out and removing pits will run the price up beyond that. You can get to $400 unless you send a nice one. $75 to engrave delco remy if you choose to do that. I’ve definitely seen rusty ones, that would be pricey, but worth it for someone wanting to keep the original.

The reproduction cup seal is definitely not up to GM standards. The one in my Gregori booster did give away after years of use. It cracked around where it seals against the push rod. It's a part that isn't serviced at my local parts counter. I took one out of a heavily rusted spare booster my buddy had. That original 50-year-old GM seal was still soft and pliable and worked perfectly.

What is this cup seal look like? Can you post any photos?

Had my contact information on a list with InlineTube as their '69 Booster/Master was sold out. They contacted me last week saying it's now in stock.

Had one done by brakeboosters.com, formerly Steve Gregori. The new owner was great and did a nice job. Mine was pitted and he removed it for an extra charge. Very pleased and quick turnaround.
