Poncho power 65 Mustang Fastback
This is my freinds car, it's a 65 Mustang with the rare bench front seat. It has a beefy Edel headed 406 Pontiac with a magneto. Pass this to your Fanatic Ford Friends and watch them squirm...

I can see it, now. He beats another Ford and the guy asks what's in it. He tells him, "A 400". And the Ford guy says, "No way, 400's don't run!" Imagine his chagrin when he sees it's a Pontiac 400.

The car runs very well, he originally built it for SCAA competition, it has front struts and a wild suspension. It's a race car with a license plate. It has a eaerly 400 block in it, I think it has a custom ground flat tappet cam.

I'd love to see pics of the front suspension or at can you tell us what he did to it? I like it!!! It has to be even more fun to spank the camaros and show them it's Pontiac engine that just wasted them!

Think you can find out if he changed the suspension to get the motor to fit or if just something he wanted to change? I am think about putting a 400 in a 67 cougar but I wouldnt want to cut the car if its just fab headers and mounts ect I'd give it ago.

Put some CV1 heads on it and they just might think its a rear distributor Cleveland. My 67 Cougar has a Cleveland in it, thought about a Pontiac since I have a good selection, but the steering linkage mods keep me from messing with the idea much. I'll pass those pics along to some Mustang guys and see what they say. Here's the thread I stuffed it in. Should cause some interest soon if you want to follow along. 67 Cougar engine bay. I never even thought about the oil sump and the steering.I just replaced everything in the frontend this year. My plan was I have a built 70 400 just setting and the 289 in the cougar is a dog. So I thought save some time and $ putting it in the cougar guess I will think on it some more. Maybe I should go with plan-A buy a 427 stoker short block and build it save my self alot of stress lol. I will follow the tread see where it goes but the oil sump is great info much thanks.

If it was a drop in with mounts and headers there would be a 400 in my Cougar. Trust me on that. The Cleveland is the next best thing to a Pontiac, even with the RA V size ports.

I'll see if he has some other pics. He just sold it this week. They don't make round port Mustang headers?!? LOL, I think he used a set of G-body headers but I will ask. The car was originally built for SCCA competition I believe.
