Default Someone had a bad day. :)

When you have a flat tire and then your spare goes flat too, it's a bad day.

I see a lot of cars running around here with two or more spares like that, only inflated.

Probably was half inflated at best when they put it on, almost nobody thinks to monitor the air pressure in their spare tire.

That's what I assume when I see an unattended, jacked up car on the side of the road with a wheel missing. Before I drove one of our Expeditions to Georgia last week I crawled underneath to check the spare.
20 lbs. in it.

That's why I check my tire pressures every month and spare every 6 months. A flat spare tire is useless.

When I was on the road driving a lot, I got a spare full sized tire for my Honda Accord since I don't put much faith on the factory equipped donut. Instead of tossing the donut, I kept both the full size spare and donut in the trunk because my luck is some of the worst on the planet. My buddies laughed and called me paranoid until that one time I got 2 flat tires on a 6 hour road trip. Nobody laughs now.

Also, many newer cars don’t even come with a spare tire anymore….

I'm right now prepping my 4WD twin cab Colorado for a 4 week trip over to Western Australia and a long, very tough drive on the Gunbarrel Highway through the desert tracks over to Ayers Rock.

Type in "Gunbarrel Highway" in your browser to read about it

I've got new All Terrain tyres on my vehicle plus 2 spare wheels, a new tube, some carpet AND a comprehensive tyre repair kit. My philosophy is if you don't take a spare wheel you are guaranteed to need it. Take one spare, you might need it. Take two spares, you probably wont have any need to use either.

One of our travelling companions is taking his fairly new Toyota Prado with just one spare PLUS he refuses to lower his tyre pressures when on very rough tracks. I can visualise already how much trouble he is looking forward to. He will learn the hard way.

Yes, this thread is a good reminder.

Before a long trip earlier this year, I checked the spare in our Subaru for probably the second time in 10 years. Why now? I have no clue... just did. It had 10 psi. It's now at least on the radar. The spare is tucked inside a hatch which is under a rubber mat. Out of sight, out of mind for me.

I do. That happened to us when I was younger, traveling with my parents. Had a flat. We pulled over to change it. Spare flat too.

I never forgot that.

I carry two spares in my Haulmark trailer, too.
