Default Reproduction Fenders

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience or input on quality of fit for repro fenders?
I am trying to get my 66 Tempest back on the road and am considering this
in the interest of time.

Any supplier suggestions?

I used a repo on the drivers side of my 67. Was actually better than I expected and the fit was fine. I believe I had to do a little tweaking at the headlight bezel....you'd be hard pressed to tell any difference.

Question

Good post. Thank you.

I was wondering if there’s a way to discern whether sheet metal on one of these cars is original or reproduction. Are there part numbers or other ID numbers stamped in OEM? Do reproduction panels have part numbers or other numbers stamped in them?

Regards,
Don

Scott,

Where are you located? I have an old Body shop take off right front fender, dented but not rusty for I think a 66 Tempest. As I no longer own a 66-67 Lemans or Tempest I don't need it. Shipping would be a killer, but I do travel for work so a meet up is possible for Northern Ohiom or western PA, or NY State in the next couple of months.

I will post some pictures if you are interested.

OE fenders (at least the 66/67 GTO stuff) have date codes. Pop the hood.
Assuming the numbers haven't been filled, you should easily spot two
sets of numbers per side.

One set is up high maybe six inches back from the leading edge, these
are the good ones. Towards the hinges and much lower is another set,
I have no clue what their significance is so @#$% them.

The good ones start making sense after you ignore the letters.
10C31M --> 10 31 --> October 31st
2B14J --> 2 14 --> February 14th
A rare instance in which ignorance can actually be useful? LOL.

You can also use this knowledge with some (not all) bumpers. They're
hidden behind the license plate, the rear may be partially visible when
the gas door is open.
9GPA24 --> 9 24 --> September 24th
9B23S --> 9 23 --> September 23rd
