1964 Lemans decode
New Guy here,
After some web searching, found this site - amazing, and all the really nice cars. But, my story, my 1st car back in HS was a 1964 Lemans convert, 326/3 sp on the floor, nocturne blue. The 326 was "bad" so I put a 389 "GTO" engine in. Years pass, last year a '64 Lemans convert shows up on auction, 1 end up buying it, it's not even a roller, part of the deal was to deliver it to my driveway. At 1st glance it's also nocturne blue, w/326/2sp auto, PS/PB/air. At closer look there is a green tint to the color. So what is it? VIN is 824 B 19261 I tried PHS but was told it is the Baltimore plant and he doesn't have any info for this car (or maybe 1964's?) So, the VIN pale and cowl plate images are attached, can anybody shed any light on what the paint color is? I've attached images of the 1st car in 1969 and the 2ed car from last year. Thanks, Dan |

Welcome to PY!
Probably John V's help on decoding. I basically have nothing. Looks like it's missing the paint code(s), the '6' is the top color I think - Beige. It's a Baltimore build so they were kind of funky I believe.

Thanks for the responses guys.
I have done a bit of searching and found a bit of info. From that info, The BA could either be Baltimore or Doraville, GA - though with the B in the VIN, it's likely Baltimore. The Trim code: 216 6 >>Saddle color, material vinyl Paint: 1 >> is special order paint - but coming from Baltimore, PHS didn't have any records of this car. No idea what the B100 code is. The car appears to be complete and original, it came from a collector in NY. The 1st things I have done is get some skins and clean wheels so it's off the ground and I had some keys made so I can get into it. I also got a title bond and applied for and received a bonded title for the car, in 3 years I can get a clean title. Dan |

Nice buy, looks like the original paint is still intact.
Loaded with comfort options, should be a fun cruiser. I have a similarly equipped Le Mans convertible as well that has power windows along with the same luxuries as your car. Welcome to the PY Forums! Bart

Quote:
johnta1 may be correct with the Beige top for ‘64. This plant is a Chevrolet controlled facility and they used different codings.

Up date
I found a Chev/Chevelle site that had info about decoding Baltimore cowl plates, and they had an example of one very similar to mine,
they stated that this style was a later version of the '64 plate. And the upper right number was for a "jig" used to make the body. And the "1" at the very lower right (some were at right upper) was the "gate" number. And as stated, the 6 was for a beige top (convert?) So the body paint is as yet still unknown. As is the Acc code "B100" Dan |

And thank you for posting the plate,
I wish mine had a similar paint code, but it will be a while before I need to know for sure. |

Update - After a conversation with John V, he convinced me to get the PHS info, and it came and was way more then I had expected.
The real gem was the image of the original "Passenger Car Shipping Order" and using John's write up for decoding it, a couple surprises (at least to me) came up - The larger heavy duty radiator (driven by the A/C) is listed, as is the "Safety Track" rear end (posi?) with a 3.08 ratio. There are 3 additional written Notes under the "boxes", one states that the car has/is a Spec Paint BUT doesn't say what it is. The Notes also state "MEMO B100" whatever that is and A/C. So the bottom line to date is, take a couple pieces to a paint store to try to learn what the color is. Dan |

Very Cool. I hope you can figure out what the special paint was from an unfaded area (like the cowl area under the front fenders). Let us know if you learn anything.
