Default Bottom Feed Turbo Intake Build

I started making the pieces for my Intake . So far I made a die for making the runners. I searched all over the internet for the right size runner material with no luck, so I decided to make them.. The die took me a couple of weeks to make but it was worth it. I got one runner made so far , it wasn't that hard once I figured out how to go though the process of lining it up square with the right size of aluminum needed so in the end of the pressing process it butted up with a small gap for welding . Im also in the process of making the head and plenum flanges as well as the throttle body flange. Im trying to figure out a way to O-ring the plenum flange with a bolt on feature so just in case the plenum I designed doesn't work I can just unbolt it and only have to build a new plenum instead of the whole manifold . Here are some pictures of the die and a runner I made with it. Also is a couple of the big chunk of aluminum im making the flanges with . It started out at 6"x28"x2" . I cut it down the middle making it basically a 6"x28"x 7/8" piece. Soon it will take shape to the size it needs to be... Its a lot of work though..

Looking Good Charlie.

That is the way I have seen McLaren Fabricators built intake runners.
Difference is they laid out lines on the material and formed a series of small bends to get a bigger radius bend for each corner of the runner 1/2 shell.

This is 3/16" plate. Should hold high boost pretty well...

Nice job on the die to make the runners! This will be interesting to see what this manifold looks like when done.. ..

Never heard of a bottom fed manifold before...

Hey Billy, Do you know much about this car? I wonder how wide the slot is feeding that plenum? That's the same idea I had for my 8 cylinder build I doing..

Thanks for posting this . I've been looking for pictures like this with this design ..

Got any others or different angles of this one? We all know you're the king of pictures ! Hahaha...

Billy, they did a really nice job on that "Bottom Feed" Intake. Whole package should be "Bad to the Bone". What Kind of times was the car running?

Tom V.

ps Charlie, We did testing on the "Slot" on a Audi Manifold designed in production with the slot.
The Audi intake was adapted to our 4 cylinder engine. Mixed results (if it did anything better, it did not show up on the dyno) vs the simple "bottom feed bounce off the roof" design by Mahovitz.

One of the absolute best Center feed Intake manifolds ever designed. Wally Beaber did this design. Air comes in, bangs off the wall and perfect distribution to the 8 runners.

Same would apply to a 4 cylinder (or 8 cylinder) "Bottom Feed" intake feeding 4 (or 8) cylinders.
John Mahovitz was not stupid and neither was Wally Beaber. The Audi Slot never showed any real gain over the side feed and bottom feed design, if anything it was worse as the slot width dimension and length was critical to get even close to the Beaber manifold.
