Default Cowl Tag Help

Hello. I am new to the site.
I have recently purchased a 1964 Lemans.
I have a number of questions, but thought I would start with the Cowl Tag.

Cowl Tag:
Pontiac Div. General Motors Corp.
7D Pontiac, Michigan 52
Style 64-2237 BODY BF12254
TRIM 216 PAINT SCA
ACC.B80 8680
Body By Fisher

I understand the 7D ...July, 4th Week
Not sure what the 52 is ?
2237 - 2 Hardtop
BF - Built in California
Trim - Saddle
Paint - no clue? (the car is saddle bronze with a black vinyl top and a ivory headliner)
ACC - not sure what B80 is ?
Not sure what 8680 is as well ?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Pete

Paint SC, love to see a pic of the tag.
the letter A after the SC stands for black vinyl top

Fremont Assembly Fisher Body used RPO codes on the early cowl tags, might see one or two such codes for Fisher Body modifications for factory accessorys on a Fremont cowl tag.

B80 is the RPO code for the stainless drip rail moldings.

Welcome to PY Forum!

Thanks for the reply!
I've attached a pic of the tag.
So does the C mean an ivory headliner or no?
Sorry I'm new to this.
A meaning black vinyl top. Thats great to know.
The car also has A/C. I would of thought that would of been on the tag.

Anything else you can explain by looking at the tag would be great.
Thanks again.

52 is the gate number I think.

The S is for Lower paint of car - Saddle Bronze Metallic
The C is for upper paint of car - Cameo Ivory
The A is for black wheels

8680 is for the build sequence on the line.
B80 is as said
216 is Saddle interior
Date code as said

All imho.

johnta1 pretty much nailed it.

This ‘64 is a Very Late build coming out of the Fremont, California plant.

I love two-tone painted cars.
The third letter in the Paint line (A) represents wheel color. Black in this case.

Are you getting the PHS for this car?
I’m curious if it has the 614 option (car sold new in California).

You found the right forum (PY) with lots of knowledgeable members on this site.

Here are two color charts for the 1964.

Thank you for the replies.

Yes, I will be ordering the PHS docs along with the org window sticker replica.

If this car was a 2 tone paint, I just hope the black vinyl wasn't installed to cover up anything vs just installing it to give it a different look.

Not sure what the 614 option is exactly, but I will let you know when I get the PHS docs.

What are your thoughts on the saddle exterior? Does that look matched up to the original color or does it seem a little darker.

Thanks again.

If the car was sold “New” in the state of California it was fitted at the factory with the #614 option which was one of the first attempts at cleaner air.

Information below speaks of the Sealed oil fill cap and Pipe from air cleaner to LH valve cover.
Since your car is a late build, it may have had the #614 option.

The PHS will tell you many things about your ‘64 Lemans.

So my Car is a SCA paint code.
As I was working on a few things this weekend, I noticed that the vinyl top is peeling. So I decided to pull it up a bit to look underneath. The sheet metal looks untouched. Never painted, etc.. So my question is, if the car was originally cameo ivory over saddle, could the top half of been cameo ivory vinyl? Looking at the pics, looks like the previous owner just painted the vinyl. Any thoughts?
I am going to order the PHS docs. Would that answer the vinyl question as well?
Thanks.

Yes, I believe.
(the newer style of PHS would anyway)

I think it would have a code in the appropriate box.

Further thinking, I think your cowl tag shows a 2 tone paint not vinyl. So the PHS would possibly show a code for 2 tone paint. If it was a vinyl top it may show the code for a vinyl top. (cordova top)?
The cowl tag would show a number 1 for the vinyl top I think. (not the alpha letter which is for paint)

Thank you for the reply.
I will be ordering the PHS documentation tomorrow.
I will keep you posted. I am restoring the top to it's original state no matter what. Actually would prefer the top in cameo paint vs vinyl !
Thank you.

64Lemans,

This is the Data/Cowl plate for a two-tone painted ‘64.
V = Grenadier Red lower body.
C = Camino Ivory Upper body.
A = Black wheels.

Default 1965

Here is a 1965 Two-Tone painted Tempest.

R = Montero Red lower body.
C = Cameo Ivory upper body.

If letters are used for upper body it is “Paint”.
If numbers are used for upper body it is a Cordova or Convertible color.

Good Morning. Just got my PHS docs. Waiting (2-3 weeks) for the window sticker order I placed. For starters....does anybody have any info on Zone 21 (Dallas TX) Dealer 319 (Odessa Motor Company - Odessa Tx - 1510 E Second)?
I have posted 2 of the documents that I have received. Thank you!

Yes - thank you... off comes the vinyl. lol
Anything else stick out to you?
What about the 614 option out of CA?
Is there anything that calls out the headliner at all? Currently its' ivory with the star like symbols stamped into the material.
