69 Trans Am prototypes
Apparently there were two 69 firebirds that John Delorean wanted for the 69 Trans Am prototypes. Of course the second one was the famous silver one that Scott Tiemann restored and is so beautiful. This one had special notes on the PHS. All the info I have read said the first one is "lost forever". What color was it? So anyone know anything about it? Or maybe remember from back in the day!

I saw the silver proto @ Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale some years ago, & may have a pic of it. Had to be 15 yrs or so ago, but I'll see if I can find it.

Somewhere on here there is a thread about the re-discovery of the Silver car after it was bought on eBay as an unknown commodity.
Seller at that time assumed it was just a fixed up Silver Firebird with a TA Hood upgrade. And they didn't get a PHS invoice on the car. There was even some small mentions made on here about the car while it was on eBay , just because it had the hood on it. It went right under the radar --- except for one PY member evidently he had a sneaky suspicion about the car in some regard - got a PHS and it comes back as a RamAir IV car ! I guess that must have really put him on pins and needles until the auction was over. Evidently no other prospects caught on or ordered a PHS. Bidding war would have developed. He won the auction at a very affordable price for a nice used car in fairly good condition .... seems like it was 10-15k At minimum he now secretly owned a RamAir IV Firebird (with a plain engine) Nobody on here ever gives it a second thought again. A couple few months pass and he comes clean and spills all the beans. They had performed extensive research and verified the car as the Prototype. So the world got caught sleeping on that one A little foggy on this detail, but it seems like while it was on eBay that someone commented the hood was a little abnormal or not quite right or something to that effect. That might have been the tip-off for someone who was really in the know about the prototypes, adding to that fact the car was factory silver. I was completely clue-less myself and never knew anything about those 2 cars before. |

and if I remember correctly after Curt had the Car restored by Scott T. and I believe shown at MCACN he ended up auctioning it with a less $$ than desired result only to have the new owner after the auction walk up to him and say "So, tell me, what did I just buy"?
DOH! DOH! Now apparently residing at the BROTHERS collection. They have so many multiples of some of these car including Pontiac's that they have no doubt increased the market value of many of them because they are "off the market" most likely never to be back on the market again. Decreases supply. Marketing 101 |

I couldn't find any of my pix of it, but I did find listing from Barrett in 2015. Sold for $313.5k with commission. Can only speculate what it's worth now.

That would have put it at about $275,000 plus the 15% juice.
Would have been around ballpark figure of what a 69 TA RamIV 4spd with extensive high point resto would have brought around that timeframe. Another 69 TA RA IV 4spd is coming up for auction at Mecum that is going on now. I think they are forecasting 400-500k what did I just buy ... and I hope it comes with a full tank of gas ! |

The last pix I saw of the Proto it was at a POCI or TA Nats parked with a late model camaro that was a modified tribute to a 70-72 TA..
Was sort of an odd pair but I think I understand it was a photo-op about both being a prototype. |

It probably is John. Thanks
Believe I got 2 car stories mixed together this time. But I thought it was this one that had RA IV in the mix too. Must have just been all the special notes and dealer name that got Kurt in the mood back then. 275k for a non-roundport hardtop Bird was strong in 2015 , going by that. only in my opinion of course : |

The hood tach option wasn't available for the production 69 Trans Am, which is why the stacked gauges were used. $313K was a steal for this one-of-one Pontiac.

That’s the one, thanks. The III car is very nice, but has a few departures from authenticity issues.
