Default Firebird door skin install

I haven’t posted in a long time…

I’m replacing the door skin on my 1972 Firebird. I’ve got the old skin stripped off of the door frame and the new skin fitted.

There is a row of dollops of some kind of adhesive attaching the top brace to the skin. It appeared to be somewhat flexible, so I assume it’s more for deadening rattles than structure.

What product do I buy to duplicate this? Panel bonding adhesive seems like it may be to hard for this application, but I could be wrong. I have only installed full door skins on 1930’s era cars, so this is new territory.

Here’s an 3M option, there are other brand/manufacturers.

You'll want to break away the old chunks of adhesive prior to putting on the skin, and inject the foam after the skin is hammered tight. It expands quite a bit and cures quickly, so move fast once you start injecting it.
