Can 1969 GTO grills be rechromed? There are plenty of these for sale cheap, but they susually always have pitted or peeling chrome. If a guy could recondition them it would a bargain compared to paying exhorbitant costs for repos.

Yeah, they can be rechromed by specialty outfits. If you do a search here in the archives for "re-chrome" or similar, you should be able to dig up some links.
From what I've seen, they are not at all cheap.

The only repros I've seen are nothing like the original. The incorporate the chrome trim with the rest of the grill, unlike separate screw on piece originals utilize. Again, good, "unpopped" cores are difficult to find and the pot metal repairs are costly and tricky. Almost an artform. Probably has more to do with chromer taking the time to do it right.
