Can you hear the motor running when you insert a tape?

Is the scratch noise coming from the speakers? I thought mine was bad and after checking it out I found the the motor was running and the problem ended up being bad speakers. Later I did replace the belt but mine works really good. Good luck

Some general repair information here:
http://www.8trackheaven.com/?q=node/3 My first guess with the limited info you gave is that the belt needs replacing. If you don't want to diagnose it yourself, there are a few places you can send the unit to have a perfessionul recondition it. Does the radio work ok? Have you tried different tapes and wiggling them a bit when they're in the unit?

I had mine done by Barry Fone.
The price has gone up a lot in the past 4 years, but his work was excellent: http://www.barrys8trackrepair.com/CarAudio.html |
