Window adjustment procedure
I sounds like I need to lube the window tracks, starting to squeak. While I have the door panels off I also want to adjust the windows to line up with each other better.
I didn't follow any particular order when I installed them last time, just tried to get them them to close and seal. For example, the driver's window touches seal between the front and rear window at the top before fully closing. This pushes the seal inward at the top. My question is, is there a particular order in which to adjust the windows? Backs then fronts, fronts then backs, or it doesn't really matter.

Your best off to adjust the front first.

Thanks, I have not removed the door panels yet, I still might need to get the rears but sounds like less work to start with.

You need to do the fronts first. The rears can be adjusted to suit the fronts. Be prepared to exercise your patience. It all can be done, but sometimes you need to walk away from it and get a fresh start.

Thanks Dick, that's probably why they are the way they are now. They are close and don't leak but could be better. I took a 20 year break from the last time I messed with the windows. Hopefully just a tweak or two.

Like I said haven't messed with adjusting the windows in 20 years.
That being said, I can see the bottom stop but I can't figure out how to raise the window slightly. Is there a hidden stop when raising the window? Or loosen the assembly and raise it, although I only see one bolt/slot combo for some kind of adjustment.

Another question: what type of grease is used in the tracks, lithium, plain old axle grease....

1A Auto has a good video for this. It covers install and adjustment as well as lubing the tracks.Maybe worth a look. Good luck!

I watched it earlier and some good tips but I need to adjust the window so it rolls up a little farther. It's level and looks good going up and down.
Maybe that's how it is, doesn't leak just looks like the window should come up more when fully closed.

There should be a stop…in the channel…or an “L “ bracket that can be moved to get that window to the top. I’ve played with so many windows ovah the Years I can’t remember every detail….but I know it when I see it…lol

Vent frame, door glass, quarter glass. If your door is aligned correctly, start with the vent frame fit to the A pillar and upper roof rail. Vent frame should be touching the roof rail seal. It's too low. Allowing your glass to go higher will only tear out the seal at the top of the frame. |

The vent frame does touch the seal, the door is partially open in the picture, optical illusion.
I will leave as is for now and lube, unless I find that L bracket Muslcah mentioned. The rear windows need more adjustment than the fronts anyway. Just thought while I was going to have the door panels off I would tweak anything I saw that caught my eye.

Grabbed a beer and in deep thought while staring at the door I noticed a stop on one of mechanisms. Well that must hit something, I tell myself. So I watch where it travels and low and behold there is a bracket inside the door. Held in place by 2, 7/16" bolts.
Made the adjustments so now the window rolls all the way up and doesn't interfere with the seal.

Spent almost 4 hours, which included removing the backseat, handles, armrests and panels, trying to make the adjustment on my windows. The top of the driver's window hits the seal on the rear window before closing which pushes the seal into the interior of the car.
As much as I have tried to adjust just seem to end where I started. When I think I might be getting closer things start to bind or run out of adjustment with the slotted screws. Any suggestions? Going to start with vent window again to see if I can it lean out a little more. At least the tracks are lubed now, no fingernails on the chalkboard sound.

Another observation, the washer like pieces behind most of the slotted adjustment screws, are those threaded or welded to the screw? If threaded I might be able to get the adjustment I need. Just throwing it out there.

More pics.
#1 the seal on the rear driver's window. #2 how the rear driver's seats when fully closed. Fits nicely in my opinion. #3 bottom of both windows fully closed, the seal is nice and flat between both. #4 the top with both windows closed, hard too see but if you notice the profile of the seal gets wider as you view from bottom up. That's the part of the seal that gets pushed towards the interior when door is closed. Apologize for fingerprints on the glass.

Not to be outsmarted by some metal and screws, I took a shot at the driver's window this morning.
I was able get the vent window frame to lean outward a little more which helped with tilting the window outward more also. It takes a little more effort to roll the window up or down but hopefully some more lube and use, it will loosen up. Pic #1 how the windows line up just before closing. Pic #2 with the door fully closed, the seal seems flush the entire length of the window. Now for the passenger side lube and hopefully very minor adjustments.
