Default 455 Block Number - What CAR was it in?

Wondering if anyone can help me with understanding what CAR this 455 engine was in. I've narrowed the mfg/model year down to '72-73, but can we determine from the partial VIN what the heck did it come in?? Thanks in advance. Man, I hate image hosting. I thought this would work.

Numbers on front left of block: 0127859 YA
and: 22A118377

You can attach pictures right onto this site when you make your post.
Then everyone can see them.
I can't see any pictures that anyone posts if they are on a hosting site.

Your partial VIN indicates a 1972 (2) model engine from the Atlanta (A) plant.
The YA code was for fullsize cars (and/or GrandPrix iirc)
But not used for GTO or TransAm or Formula applications.

www.wallaceracing.com website can give you more data points and show you how to identify date codes/locations on all the cast iron pieces.
And how to identify the cylinder heads , and it will list their specs

As BVZ said, it's a 1972 455 from a B-body or GP car. You could send that partial VIN to PHS to find out what car it did come in. But cost $$$.

Try my engine code search web page to see what the engine assembly came with:

To link to your photos you can use the 'Link' icon to just link to it.
These being big might be the best way.
(one could open them in different tab, without making the thread large)

These are great pics of the engine, btw.

Lakewood GA in 71 & 72, built A-body's & GP's. Tons of Lux LeMans & GP's. not B-body's

Most likely the above YA block came from a '72 GP but would not surprise me at all for numerous 72 YA's to have been installed in '72 A-body's.

I disagree!
The YA coded 455 blocks did not start showing up in A or F body cars until 1973 production started in late Aug of 72.

So it sounds like it has narrowed down to coming from a 72 GrandPrix built at the Atlanta plant.

I still can't see any of the pictures, but if the engine is still virgin quality, the driver side exhaust manifold would be center exit/outlet on a 72 GP or Fullsize.
Rearward exit/outlet on an A or F body type car.

Most all the pieces will have date codes on them.
Block, heads, intake, exhaust manifolds
Parts get swapped around by gear heads as the years go by, sometimes for the better.
