Thumbs up '72 Sundance Orange 455HO M22 . . .

My old Sundance car is lot F166 on Friday December 4th at the Mecum Houston auction.
One of the finest and most original ' HO cars I've ever had the pleasure of owning!
At a Mecum event several years ago it sold for $57K.

Yessir. Skip Barooby in Maryland special ordered this GTO exactly as he wanted it. I wad able to locate him and interviewed him by phone for while researching info for Randy Allen's feature article on my car in HPP magazine.

Below is the link to that article, now on the HOT ROD magazine website since HPP folded up years ago.

Default ‘72 Sundance Orange

Noticed the small shield installed over top of A/C pulley. Given the history of this car, I assume that is a factory installed piece. I’ve been trying to determine what cars, what years, etc. got this piece. Thought I had discovered that these came on some Buick GS models. Can you tell me anymore about it? Would like to find one for my original owner ‘71, but not sure that it is really correct for my car. Still might like to add one to prevent compressor oil being slung all under the hood.

Sharp eye, Terry. That A/C compressor oil shield was a Buick only piece. I've never seen one installed on any other GM vehicle.

I am unaware of which previous owner added it to this car, but I suspect that it was done by the original owner, Skip Barooby.

I knew that it wasn't correct for my car, but I left it on when I detailed the engine bay. It does a great job of keeping that snarfy compressor oil of of the hood underside and other engine components!

I've been eyeing that car since it was originally scheduled for Houston in April. I bought some park hotels and resorts stock (pK) at the bottom in March, figured it would recover by the time of the auction and that could help purchase the car.

I'll be a bidder in December.

If anyone would like more details about the car that aren't "published", don't hesitate to get in touch with me. I always love to chat about Pontiacs!

e-mail me at lbcoulson@comcast.net and I'll reply back with my phone number.

Stunning car and great write up in HPP. Really cool to see Pontiac buds Chuck Roberts and Phil Ponder mentioned. GLWS

Hey Chris. Yep Phil is a great guy. He was very honest and accommodating when I purchased the car.

Please give Phil my regards when you see him.
