Default 1970 grand prix leather interior

Anybody have leather interior in their 70 grand prix? Are the sail panels different than standard interior? I have been told the sail panels have a engraved pattern but I need some help??

the '70 leather interior does not use the embossed sail panel like the '69 has. i believe it is the same as the non leather interior.

the leather interior in the 70 is unusual in that it uses the 69 gold interior color (different seat patterns of course) rather than one of the 1970 interior colors.

I have factory leather interior in my 70 GP. I will take a couple of pictures when I get home.

Here are a couple of pictures of the unrestored original leather interior in my 1970 Grand Prix SJ.

Beautiful car. Thanks for the pictures. Is the raised area applied or part of the panel?

It’s part of the panel. It’s made that way.

If you mean the sail panels on the C pillar they are molded and shrink wrapped in grained vinyl. Unlike regular GP’s it is not covered with headliner material but the same vinyl like on the door panels.

Might have a pair of embossed BLACK sail panels, if not they are black rear interior panels. Methodically parted 2 19-19 black leather interior '70 455 GP's back in mid 90's, one a rusty SJ, the other a Model J. The J came with no front buckets or doorpanels. Have multiple dozens of garment boxes with bubble packed interior panels. Will watch for the long flat box.

A buddy of mine had these made at SMS in Oregon. They may still have the pattern for them?

Check your trim tag on the firewall for the interior code. it will tell you if it’s a leather interior car or not.

I have seen them both ways on '70 GP's. May be an early/late production thing.
