Question

Why is it that, among ALL "Pontiac" engine builders, only Paul Spotts has a CONSISTENTLY fast car?

In other words, "one that makes three fast passes in the same weekend?"

And I'm not talking about builders who have their stickers on somebody else's car.

Default 6.75 Stupid Class?

The basis for that class came from the original NSCA Pro-Nostalgia Class. What makes 6.75/cube a stupid class? Most full bodied Pontiac racers have trouble getting there car with a 505 ci motor to down to 3400lbs. The base weight for your class for a 525ci Big Block is 3550, that comes to 6.76 pounds per cubic inch. A 400 ci small block is 7.00/cube.

The only person that asked me to run heads up was little Jack and I took his $100. I built my car around 2 classes. None are as stupid as 6.75/cube. The only class that I run in that Jimmy would be legal for is RAM 10.5. The rules say he has to weigh 3162lbs with his 2 carbs, sheet metal intake and clutchless trans but he would have to put a 29.5 x 10.5 tire on the car. Jimmy didnt ask me to run him heads up. I would have, no problem even with my hurt motor. He asked me why I wasnt running the 6.75lbs class, I told him what I had to weigh, he understood why I wouldn't add all that weight to my car. My transmission would explode on the starting line at that weight. Blowing up at $7500 trans wasn't worth the $1000 pot. The individuals that put up the loot for the class paid for what they wanted to see, small cube, big tire 5-speed cars. Congrat's to Jim on the win.
John he would have to weigh over 3300 and little tires to run in my class...

65nss4spdGTO: your numbers don't add up..I'll admit sounds similar..easy to take
numbers out of context and make them appear to be the same.

I am required to race at 6.238lbs/cid in the NMCA. Why would a full bodied Pontiac racer have a problem getting their car down to 3400lbs with a 505? A 400" motor weighs roughly the same as a 565" motor. 6.75/cube is stupid because a smaller motor is more efficient thus making more power per cube then a larger motor. Santioning bodies have sliding scales for weight based upon cid so having a flat 6.75lb rule is stupid. Factoring a clutchless the same as an auto is stupid. But alas, it wasn't my money, it wasn't my rules so it was my choice not to race under them. I didn't really say anything until some a$$ clown claimed I was called out and backed down.

I guess you are not familiar with the funny car that resides in VA? 23 6 second passes and no failures. 17 of them in the 6.50's!

You're not an engine builder, Scott.

And your car isn't owned by Liberal Jim.

Read my original post.

I gotcha! You are saying engine builders that own their own cars. Most can't afford or have the time to build and maintain one would be my guess. They have to rely on customers to fund and let them build engines for them for their advertisement. I can assure you now one has built a more powerful/durable combo than CVMS and Dave Wilcox with the best parts supplied by AllPontiac

1. Correct.

2. I disagree. Butlers have all the money they need. Where is their consistent six-second car? Other Pontiac engine builders/car owners have already been addressed here.

Tom and Jack, please dont take this wrong. I appreciate your intent and effort you put in to make the heads up event happen.

I have to agree with John Langer about 6.75 lb across the board break. Rams (NAShootout) rules would be worth looking at if an "honest" heads up NA shootout were to be reconsidered.

http://nashootout.com take a look at the different class rules.

http://www.nashootout.com/10.5.htm rules for 10.5" slick could be a reasonable guideline to find ideas for closer competition. Notice the sliding weight break John speaks of. Pro is lighter less restictive than 10.5 Radial is more restricted than 10.5.

Merely offering up a format guideline we (NAShootout) have and you are welcome to adapt any or all of the rules we use should you guys or others want to try this or something similar again.

I certainly would like to see all the fast NA door car Pontiacs at our events.

Bruce
