The past four months since my last post on this thread have flown by!

My GTO continues to give me miles of trouble free smiles. But in the interest of making it look more correct, I decided to replace the '68 intake and service replacement carb with a correct '67 intake, 7027263 carb, and all the correct PCV/vacuum lines and fittings. This way when I lift the the hood, I'll be greeted with an engine that looks even more like a 67!

I located an appropriately dated intake pretty quickly. Finding the perfect carb was more of a challenge. I think I found one that will work, but it needs a plastic fast idle cam to be complete (part number 33893). Once I have this, I'll be able to send it out to Cliff R for restoration and set-up for my car. Anyone have one of these fast idle cams I could purchase? Not sure if other 67 carbs used the same part, but I suspect so.

Have you tried Jon Hardgrove of the Carburetor Shop? He's a member here-

By the way, I might be interested in your '68 setup if you decide to part with it sometime in the future.

It will be available as soon as the new set-up is installed and checks out. Hopefully, by mid-late January. I'll pm you to let you know.

Do both the Rochester and Carter versions of this carb both use the same plastic part?

Thanks Tim! There were lots of really nice cars at Pontiac Heaven so I was thrilled to win the HPP Editor's Choice Award. I've been to lots of cruise-ins out here, but this was the only show I've ever done.

So you want to know how the car did on the track? Well let me just say that the car did just fine...it was the rookie driver that was the problem! On the first run I was too caught up in the situation and I missed the light...I then shifted like a grandma...and if that's not enough for you, I let off the gas too early toward the end...I decided to get serious on the second run--I even put on my "mean face"...but I was way too aggressive on the launch and spun the tires for a while before I made much forward progress. First shift I spun them some more. My time wasn't much better. It was a thrill for me to do it though--I can see how it can get addicting.

I have to get it right next time. There's a BOP event here in November and now my wife wants to race me with her Firebird. If I loose, I'll never be able to live it down!

Jeff, in HPP?? Why didn't you mention this??? Wow, very cool.

The plastic Fast Idle Cam,?? The Carter is 33893. I know that!!! lol Interstingly,
I have asked Joe B. here ,to show me his FICs, and, the P/Ns are different, the Rochester is 40815, and a different number on the other side!! Also, Joe had a 7027263
with a metal FIC !!! I am more confused than ever now!! But, still working on the part.

Keep the faith!! Larry B.

I got my carb back from Cliff on Valentine's day, but I haven't had a chance to install it in the 67 because I've been busy with my other projects. Well, it's in the car now, and all I can say is WOW! The car feels and sounds like it's performing at a whole new level. Can now light the tires in an instant and feel the sensation of being pushed back in the seat while accelerating. Now I understand why Cliff has such a long queue!

Other news: In addition to the HPP Editor's Choice award at Pontiac Heaven last year, the car has won awards at a couple different BOP shows: Popular choice Best 60's Pontiac and judged Best GTO. It also appeared in the Cactus GTO Club Calendar.

All well deserved Jeff. Congratulations on the recognition. It has been a long road and you are now reaping the rewards. Hey, have you and the misses lined up against each other at the track yet ? be careful, it could be mighty humbling getting smoked by your beloved ! Not soon to forget, you will be reminded at every family gathering from here forward. Keep us posted buddy.

As for Cliff’s work, not surprised. He is certainly an authority on carburetors and anything mechanical for that matter. Worth the wait and expense for top shelf service.

I never get tired of seeing photos of your '67, Jeff. Also, I'd missed it earlier, but the photo of the 'bird and goat in your garage is great....it's how any respectable garage should look!!

Thanks Tj...The wife and I were supposed to race at this year's Pontiac Heaven, but the racing portion of the event is postponed because of issues with the track timing system. I was a little nervous because her engine made about 400hp on the dyno, and with a lighter car and automatic, she could have done well against me, especially given my engine wasn't running close to it's potential. I think the odds are in my favor now...but you're right about never living it down if she beats me!

Thanks! I too love to see multiple Pontiacs in a garage. Unfortunately, we're running out of garage space, and stacking them isn't an option unless we raise the ceilings. I see a nice garage addition in my future!

I was going to let this thread fade away, but something out of the ordinary happened and so I thought it would be worth an update.

Hagerty insurance gave me a call a couple weeks ago and asked if they could shoot my car for a TV spot. I try to take advantages of opportunities to do new things--especially if they involve the outdoors and cars--so I agreed. I ended up spending an entire day, from dawn to dusk with the crew. Really nice folks. They took photos and video of me driving the car, but I think only the actor will appear in the ad (see attached photo). The car ran great--it stayed cool despite idling and driving back and forth across small stretches of road for 12 hours (plus 60 mile round trip). They photographed my wife and her Firebird (for print ads and pamphlets) the day before at a different location. They'll provide us with a portfolio of photos of both shoots, which will be neat to have.

Wow, Jeff. That's a very cool opportunity you had there! And I'm glad to see Haggerty using your '67 for this. Very, very cool indeed! Can't wait till it comes out.

Wow, that is cool Jeff. We'll have another celebrity GTO, yours on TV.

Three years ago a buddy of mine had his V8 MGB photographed as background for a J C Penny catalog spot.

Very, very nice......But you haven't really made it until you get it featured in a Viagra commercial...You know, like the one where the guy fixes his overheated Camaro with a 16oz bottle of Dasani. Then you'll know that "You've reached the age of knowing how to get things done"...lol

The marketing guys at Hagerty sent me a copy of a print ad featuring my car.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0k8xucartx...gerty%20Ad.jpg

The TV ads will be running this week during the Scottsdale auctions on Fox Sports, Spike, Velocity and Discovery. As an example, my car's featured in the middle one from the e-mailer I received a couple days ago. I'm not driving except in the shot where the car is headed off into the sunset.
