Default Valve spring tester question.

Hello all, I’m thinking of buying an on the head spring tester like the Moroso ones.

I guess I’m not really understanding how to use one or how it works. Most of them list a max pressure that isn’t that high, 300 lbs on some. That is less than the open pressure on a lot of springs.

Does it just show the spring tester and then you have to figure your open up? I’m feeling very dense right now.

Thanks
Murf

Just be aware these types of testers can vary considerably compared to a calibrated bench tester like a Rimac machine. Springs can lose pressure after run in and over time. Therefore we use the on the head spring tester only to monitor the springs with use.

As noted in the above, test each spring a few times. And make sure it's positioned correctly.

LSM make some very nice tools for working with valve springs. There expensive but worth ever penny in my opinion. I purchased the on head valve spring tester, and the tool for removing the valve springs.
