Default ‘66 GTO A/c questions

Tried to attach pics to an earlier post but never got past “close this file” step. Trying again, but probably will have to see if I can be clear without pics. Have an A6 compressor of unknown age/history/application. Foil label on it mentions different Pontiac models, including Firebird, so guessing it is later than ‘66. Wasn’t the same A6 compressor used for several years/ multiple models including 66? Will this mystery comp that I have mate up correctly on my ‘66 GTO as far as brackets, hoses, clamps, etc. are concerned? Second question concerns 2 piece clamp that attaches muffler to compressor. What is the correct finish for this clamp; satin black, natural metal, something else?

I had an A-6 on my 67 GTO but kept having problems with the front seal leaking so I went to an S-6 from Classic Auto Air. It weighs half as much and bolts up just like the A-6. Here is a picture of mine installed. The main difference is the front cover. The natural brackets on mine are also visible

Default ‘66 GTO A/C questions

Thanks for the pic of your system. I should have also mentioned that I’m doing a cosmetic restoration of my A/C system. I don’t intend for it to function. I researched the cost to get it functional and decided it was more than I care to spend. I have other cars with A/C that I never use, so it just didn’t make sense to me on this ‘66 GTO. I have devoted a lot of time to track down missing pieces of the system and restore them as accurately as possible appearance wise. From your pic looks like I will need to replate my muffler clamp. Still need to know if this A6 compressor I have is correct for the car.

Yes, the later A6's will fit your '66.

Also, in regards to the seal leaking, you can replace the original ceramic seal with a double-lip seal which works better than the original. Alma Products makes new A6 compressors and they also have a seal kit, 73-027S, which I heard from them works on our old A6's as well. One of these days, I'll replace the seal in my original '66 GTO A6.
