Default bought reproduction 14x6 Hurst wheels today

Hi guys,

I bought some re-pop Hurst wheels today complete with trim rings, center caps, lugs, decals, and " Hurst Equipment" emblem. I questioned how to fasten the trim rings to the wheel and was told to use piano wire. I see how this could work ok but has anyone found a better way?? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks....

First, where did you manage to find a set??

I know I wrote a long message on how to attach these, but I can't remeber whether it was a post or an email to a member. If a search doesn't turn it up, I'll be glad to post for you. I know I have pics somewhere.

Couldn't find the post, so here's a pic which is largely self-explanatory. Washers are tack-welded to the wheel. Wire is used to retain the trim ring. I also used split pieces of 3/8" rubber fuel line between the trim ring and the wheel to protect the trim rings and keep them quiet. Haven't had any problems in a few hundred miles of driving. Nothing visible once the wheel is mounted.

Default Hurst wheels

Hello Matt,

Well......I called the Parts Place for an update on the wheels, I had been waiting for some time, anyway I spoke with the owner and they had three complete sets that people said they wanted but failed to either call back or stop in and pick them up. I am very pleased with them and look forward to seeing them on my red 65'

I did a search and did not find anything on mounting the trim rings. I will give it another shot, if I still can't find anything I'll send you an email and maybe your can find those pictures? thanks for replying Matt!!

good score; those things are usually made of unobtanium.

Default Hurst wheels

Thank you Matt, I appreciate it. Using the rubber is an excellent idea as well.

I will post some pictures soon and yes I feel lucky to have found them, it was just great timing, I think the owner (Joe) was tired of waiting for the few people that told him they wanted them, they told me guys say they want them but when push came to shove they fell short on funds, I think we all have been there at one time or another.

Thanks again guys!!

John - I know from my search for Hurst wheels that TPP was apparently contacting customers who bought the repros during their short production run, and offering to buy them back for more than the orignial sale price. I can only assume that they were then reselling them for even more than that. I doubt you'd see a set of repros for less than $3000, considering what real ones are going for.

Default Hurst wheels

awesome looking 64' Matt!! Thought I would chime in about price, I bought 4 wheels, 4 trim rings, 4 centers with decals, 20 lugnuts, and a Hurst emblem for 1995.00 plus 129.99 tax. All items were new in box but we did pull the trim rings out to inspect because according to the owner someone had received a trim ring with some pretty nasty grinding marks on it. All trim rings were fine upon inspection. Over all I am thrilled and can't wait to get these things mounted, today I call Diamondback..............Matt.....BTW, I see your car sits correctly as does my 65", what size tires did you purchase?? I am thinking some 225/70R14s?? Any input would be appreciated.

Great deal Mike! I would have grabbed another set at that price if the had them. I know you could flip those on eBay for at least 50% more than you paid. But I say keep them!

Going from memory on tire size - they are Cokers on the '64, which I don't like, frankly, but they were included with the wheels. I want to say 205/75/14, but I'll have to double-check. Go with the Diamondbacks if you can, I have them on my '65 and I love them. I like around a 26" tall tire on these cars, which amounts to about a 215/70, since you're running 14" wheels.

nice car, mwritter.
2 grand for hursts complete??
that is the best bargain of all time.
i've seen real ones and the repros gof ro outrageous money over the years...
even the tins sell for many hundreds of dollars alone.

Hey guys,

Yes, I am very happy with the price and quality of these wheels, today I ordered some 215/70R/14s from Diamondback tires, going to take 2 weeks before they get here but will post pictures shortly after receiving. Thanks for all the input guys. Man.....I love my Pontiac
