I agree, too. I don't like vinyl tops at all, but they look 'right' on a '68 and '69. Hate them on the earlier cars and the later ones, too. Colors are the same way....what looks great on a square early car looks bad on a swoopy later car, and vise-versa. That said, I always wanted to build a Verdoro Green '65 Convertible with a Parchment interior!

I'm at a trade show in Las Vegas for a week and just saw this.
They got into the rear quarter and discovered that the inner fender was toast and had to order one, which came in last week. In the mean time they've got the got the front bumper lined up better than it was and stripped the vinyl roof off and patched a couple of holes back by the rear window. He said the rest of the roof looked great, which surprised me. He has a sample of paint and will shoot me a sample soon after I get back home. When will it be done? Tommy says "maybe" by months end.....but don't count on it. I have stressed all along that I'll gladly trade time for quality. No hurry here......though I will admit to missing it.......

These things just have a way of turning into a pus case. I went through this when my ex-GF keyed my car. Long story I have posted before but the body shop said "no way" to repairing and repainting the hood, trunk lid and entire driver's side that she mangled. The car had original paint, primer, an original color re-spray, primer, Imron color change re-spray, primer and a clearcoat/base coat re-spray (mine) on it. I had no idea there was that much paint on the car. The Imron was like powder coat and would not feather edge so all the paint had to come off.

The ex took responsibility only for the panels she damaged but changed her mind when faced with a Felony Property Damage charge vs. stripping and repainting the entire car.

You never know what the body shop will find when the paint is stripped.

All the body work is done.....minus making that repop quarter panel fit.
As Muslcah noted, PG Collision has been covered up since I dropped the GTO off. He even thanked me when I talked to him earlier this month.

Now you fully understand why it's called body shop or paint jail.

You wouldn't have to worry about a Taiwan panel fitting if the shop was doing their due diligence and repaired the simple damage on the quarter panel. A repaired quarter is always a better repair than a replaced one regardless whether it is an OEM or an aftermarket. That is the problem these days, everyone wants to be a parts replacer not a skilled worker.

Time does not guarantee a thing.

A friend of mine just hauled his car home from a shop where it has been for 3 years. In 2017 the only thing the shop did was make and install the gas pedal assembly.

And before anyone gets it in their head that my friend wasn't paying. My friend makes 6 figures a year and when it comes to his cars, he has blank checks.

Best of luck to you, David. These things seem to drag on more often than not.

Unfortunately for the hobbyist, collision work is much more lucrative and always takes the front seat.
