Default Mecum Kissimmee Auction

Down in FL right now - my wife had a conference for work at Margaritaville Orlando.

Yesterday while she was in meetings, when out to the auction to look at cars.

Ran across this '64 GTO Convertible, Sunfire Red, Black top and interior, Tri Power, 4spd car.

Mecum's estimated valuation $80 - 100,000.00.

I'm going to have to check the results, because if this thing sells for anywhere near that price, my '64 is worth a lot more than I thought it was....

The car looks good from 20'. But just a quick look showed some body issues I would not expect on an $80,000+ car.

First shot is the car over all, second is showing some aftermarket stainless molding screwed in to the door inside the jam and showing exposed bondo (and it's like that on both doors). Third shot shows the poorly aligned rear quarter panel/extension (and it's like that on both sides).

Saw some very nice Pontiac's - Firebirds, GTO's, Grand Prix's, Bonneville's, G8's, Catalina's and Solstices.

Also saw an abortion of a '62 Thunderbird - last photo... That lexan 'convertible top' held in place by stainless steel framework was the bomb...

Arrow Available to transport

I am 50 miles away in Melbourne.

Had two parties lined up to bring
their cars to the Sunday auction.
Both were in Florida.

Both backed out of the auction
because of 10% no reserve
Seller premium.

If someone buys a car at the
auction or elsewhere in Florida
I am available for transport.

Some nasty stuff on that 64.
Maybe the moldings were used to detract from the bad and uneven gap , then hell broke loose.
It will probably be one of those cars that bids up close to reserve and then fails to sell.
aka shill

First 3 days have been about half sold / half unsold results.
Possibly less than half sold , but seemed to be close odds.

Just saw the 62 Catalina go across the block & sold for $20K.

I started a thread on the AACA a couple of days ago about having a car the same year as your birth. That car was almost a duplicate to one of the only cars I would want from our birth year (Laura & I) had I been down there a week earlier than I will be....I probably would have bought it!

By the way...We ALL know how much it costs to sell or buy at an auction, so nobody is going to change their mind at the last minute. Car guys don't go into anything blind to what it costs.

Because I cannot say NO to my good customers......I now have TWO enclosed spots from Central Florida up to either Alabama or Eastern Tennessee over the next two weeks, so if you can't control your urge, I am available to provide QUALITY Transport that you won't be disappointed in along that route!

God Bless
Bill

This is the main reason to go and look at in person if you are serious about buying at an auction. Nothing wrong with auctions just know the fees and what you are getting. I have had a lot of success but I also do my homework first. Set a max and let it go if the price is beyond your limit, even if its only $100. I looked at a motorcycle that was absolutely beautiful in the pics and online. Had determined a top price and registered. At the last minute I was able to make the trip. When I saw the bike in person it was a mess. The $1000 trip saved me at least $8k!

How many folks saw the 67 Grand Prix followed by the 63 Grand Prix roll across the block on Saturday??

Now I wasn't there to see either one, so they could have been real "Sh1tboxes" but from the TV viewer...They both looked pretty nice!

God Bless

That 64 looks pretty rough to me! I wonder what you can't see!

I don’t get it, I thought Dana was a Pontiac guy. They go to a commercial when there are 18 Pontiac’s in a row. Maybe he doesn’t get to say anything when they go to commercials? Marc.

The 64 GTO sold for $59,400. I believe that number includes the buyers premium.

Well, if someone gave nearly 60 G's for that, the market for '64 GTO convertibles is HOT...
