Question What's it worth? 74 Firebird

Decent car, one owner, 70k miles 350/auto. It's Regatta Blue/ Black interior. Original paint, runs and drives. It's dirty, needs some love, has rally IIs and the Formula hood. Very straight, no rust and all original glass.

I'm interested in buying it, but I was originally looking for a 70-73.

No idea what its worth.

If it's a 1974 Firebird Formula 350/2 bbl./TH350, I would say $20-22,000. Rally II could be 14" or 15". AC may bump price, but sentimental value always tries to double that.

Thanks, it does have 15" Rallys, no A/C.

I was thinking closer to $15K , $20K+ seems high but then again everything seems high

Did they have a price in mind?
If you are a part of Facebook, here is a similar car. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...46080453216965
If you can see, they are asking $26,500 with a rebuilt 350/2 bbl/TH450, had 15" Rally II (missing), AC (missing or replaced with newer system), Buccaneer Red/Black std. interior. Price is a little high and it's 5 weeks old.

It's not as nice as the red one, has potential. Engine is stock and has a holley intake and carb.

No engine bay picture. I'm confused on the 400 block w/350 cu in engine. Does that mean there's an extra block that's 400 cu in or 350 innards added to block (which wouldn't be a 350). 350 with no AC means single fuel line, no return line. Tough to find fuel pump, hard to correctly upgrade. Does have the gauge/tach package. Strange picture of dash, almost looks sprayed. Messed up steering wheel is a good bargaining chip too. 15" Rally II's look added/Day 2 upgrade and jacked up back end is so '70s. Plus broken front filler piece. Holley intake and carb means not stock air cleaner. Are all changed out parts included? Biggest problem I see is what looks like a tweaked front bumper.

I meant to take a pic of the engine bay when I was there, its plain and dirty. OE valve covers, nothing special. The front piece on the bumper was cracked, seemed like from age, it did not seem to be hit. The dash felt sticky, I thought it was sprayed too, but I think it may need to be scrubbed. The dash with the woodgrain makes me think just base firebird, the data plate shows vinyl strato buckets (standard issue I believe). It's always been garaged so it has minimal sun damage. Oh, he removed the headliner.

He doesn't know Pontiac so the engine description is confusing. Its just a 350 CI engine, he was told once its a "400 block with 350 heads", alluding to something special; engine is original 350. I didn't grab head/engine code but he said its OE and never been out of the car, never been rebuilt. I think the heads were 4C or 46.

I'm still struggling to see $21k here, I think $15k-$17k.

One owner and he doesn't know Pontiac?!?
Data plate/trim tag will have code to say what it is. So will VIN.
Just the fabric or the backing board too on the headliner?
Just giving you the things to justify a lower offer...

I wouldn’t pay $15,000 US for it but that doesn’t mean someone else won’t.

What will the seller take is the real question?

He doesn't know much mechanical, self admitted. He's barely changed the oil himself, he used to have a guy that serviced it over the years who retired. He's retired too (70 YO).

The board is there, the fabric was loose so he removed it.

I would say there is a lot of sentimental value here, oh and the kicker, his wife didn't know he listed it. That may be the other hiccup.

It would probably be more desirable if it were a 70-73 or am I wrong? Seems the 74's are desirable only if they have the 455 (HO/SD)

70-73 fewer made and most think they look better.

Maybe you need to find another car?

Some of us have an affinity for Blue '74s. But, I'd take a '73 in similar condition.

My opinion, on this car, I'm more in the $12-15,000 range (showing my sentimental value for the high end). That Red car I mentioned is about 20% high.

And, the code I was referring to was you saying base Firebird instead of Formula (W66 on tag).

No rust and original paint looks like that and ya’ll expect to get the car for 12k?

If the car has never been apart, has that solid feel and no rust I think you’re in the 18-20k range. Lower the back, put a 70-73 front end on the car and enjoy it.

A car with ok paint, is worth nothing more than a car with bad paint or no paint, if it still needs a full repaint. Then same is for interior trim in ok condition. If carpet is still worn and faded and seats need recovering, then doesn't add any value. This may not be the case if excellent condition and original where you have no plans to replace, or repaint, but those are rare.

Looks like a decent car, it does have a couple of minor nitpics. Paint is expensive and time consuming, with that buy in price you would be better off with a clean up and drive as is. I would think 20k is a great asking price, but a better buy price would be 16-18k.

He pulled it and is going to wait until the spring to relist. I'm going to keep looking for a 70-73
