1989 GTA ASC Convertible 5.7 - How rare are they really and what are they worth?
I picked up a white with beechwood1989 GTA ASC with the 5.7 a few years back... Sat doing a whole lot of nothing since. Just took it to a local show and a cruise now and then. I'm going to do this car right with my son as a project. I just had basic coverage on it up til' now. State Farm is asking for a "collector car" value and Haggerty doesn't even show these as being available. Any idea how many were really made? I've heard all kinds of stories, from only 50 produced to a couple of hundred. What are they really worth (this car is clean and solid but had a fair repaint due to prior peeling clear coat)? The car runs and drives great. Everything works but it could use a new top (original with a very yellow window and a well-worn "carhartt" jacket hue to it) and the front seats are coming apart. The car has 78K on it. I have all the dealer's docs showing car was T-Top and was converted prior to sale through ASC. Would PHS be able to help? Any other GTA convertible owner's out there?

There were 143 GTA/TA L98 convertibles built in 1989 with an additional 43 Formula 350's built as well.
Value wise, I walked away from one in PA a little over a year ago for 9,000 that needed more work than I wanted to put into it and I didn't believe the miles. That being said, yours with good paint and the leather seats in perfect condition, would likely retail at an auction or classics dealer in the high teens. Get agreed value at 20k and you should be fine for the next couple of years.

Thank you for this information! I'm into it at just under $6K so it looks like we've got some room to spend on it.

You're fine.
They make excellent reproductions of the leather seat covers and convertible tops - paint should be easy as well. Fun project for you & your son.

Saw some covers at Hawks... What's another good source for these?

I thought GTAs with the 350 were not avail. as converts. (even from the factory because of CAFE ratings) because they started as carved up T-tops.
GTAs with factory T-tops could only get the 305. The 350s were sent to ASC for conversion by the dealer. Only 305 GTAs were factory built ragtops (87 and up). I think the same deal for Formulas. Gotta check www.thirdgen.org to be sure.

Learn something new every day don't we sonjaab - they were built, my numbers are accurate and I have the VIN numbers to prove them straight from ASC.
