70 GTO in Michigan at $44K BIN. This was the car I drove in HS when I was 16 except it was a 455 4-speed and the "GTO" stickers were black and not red. Eventually I put Cragar SST's on it and jacked it up with Gabriel air shocks. Man I loved that car and the red interior is so red, when you get out of it your eyes have to readjust.

67 Firebird in NC at $48K BIN. Not sure why it doesn't have trim rings, but man white/red is a sharp combination.

I have never seen a column shift auto with a console. It looks odd to me.

Was that ever offered from the factory? I’ve seen similar in that late 60’s Canadian Pontiac 2+2 had buckets and console as standard equipment so if you ordered one with the standard three on the tree manual trans you’d still get a console but with a block out plate where the shifter would normally go. I’d imagine the SS Impala in the US would be the exact same set up.

Either way, that's a nice looking red interior.

Which brings up another question, if you ordered an 8-track on a 69 Firebird without a console, was the bracket different than a GTO or GP? I've never seen it, but poking around the web it does exist. If you ordered an 8-track and a console with a column shift, I assume the blank would be drilled for it. At least that would fill up the space where the shifter normally goes.

A non operating console was never offered in a 69 Firebird and I'm 99% certain it wasn't in 67-68. I suspect that guy just made a new cover for the shift area. That's why it doesn't have any woodgrain, he just peeled it off and painted everything red.

Btw, you could get an 8 track on a non console 69 Firebird. It used a tiny bracket that was less than an inch tall and therefore didn't need a trim bezel to hide the bracket. Here is a pic of it on my base 1bbl OHC6 no console 69 ragtop.

Mad knowledge there. That's so cool. I love the odd duck options. There were few "packages" that didn't include big engine options back then. Everything was cheap: floor mats, clock... crap like that. The 69 8 Track Stereo AM/FM is the holy grail of 69 Firebird sound. That option was at least 10% of the cost of the entire car. The entire life of the 8 Track was really 1969 in the beginning, to 1978. I had one in my 69 Chevelle. I only had two 8 Track tapes: Jethro Tull Aqualung and Yes - Fragile. When I would listen to the album version, I would expect to hear the tape winding down to switch tracks. For those that understand what I'm talking about, it was a very short window and very cool.

There are songs that, even when I hear them today, I can remember where the "break" should be.

That 8 track is so cool. Assume the 8 track mandated an AM-FM steeo radio? In a 'vert, where are the stereo speakers located?

For us old guys, 8 track follies could be a sticky somewhere. How offen did you see an 8 track cartridge laying alone side the road with about a mile of tape hanging out?

Nope. Some cars were built with AM/8-track. In Firebird 'vert, rear speakers were hung in cardboard housings on the rear seat support high in the trunk with the grilles attached over the soft well the top dropped into.

Fun fact... did you ever play the death out of Pink Floyd Animals? On the album version, Pigs on the wing part one ends at 1:20 (link below). On the 8-track version, Pigs on the Wing part 1 (first song) has an amazing guitar riff that segues part one and 2 together, though on the album part 2 was the last song. The youtube link below is the 8 track version connecting both parts 1 and 2.
