Default 91 Firebird Headlights

Trying to get this car in shape for my son. The headlight doors do not open at all. I cannot even turn the knob as it has no friction to it. Does nothing when turned. They are getting power. Could it be just the gears in motor are worn or broke. I see kits out there to replace the gears. I would think I should be able to raise them manually, is there any other way to raise them? Thanks

There are 3 little "pucks" that look like a piece of grandmas hot glue gun sticks. Those just crumble and turn to dust over time.

Here is the kit I use on them.

Mine were like that in my 91 GTA. I used the same kit to fix them.
When they are really shot, even the hand crank doesn't work so you have to unbolt the assemblies and rebuild.

There are several youtube videos that will help.
