Here is a little plug for our service on refinishing sport wood wheels. 90% of all the wood wheels at Pontiac shows either came from us or we did the refinishing of the woodgrain.

If your wheel is only worn and not cracked, a method yielding nice results is to apply Minway Polyshades polyurethene to bring back the color. "Walnut" color is pretty close to the original.

Scott, good point. We have had several wheels come back over the years with excellent grain, but the stain had worn off. We just stained them and put a couple of coats of satin clear back on and the customer saved about $100 bucks. Unfortunately, those wheels are now few and far between.
