Default Holley electric choke history

Hey all, after a bit of History on the choke progression (Tom V possibly)
When did the electric choke become available (to OEM and public / aftermarket).
I think most OEM (at least Pontiac) still used divorced or hot air well into the 70's, (although not many Ponty got Holley carbs (RAV?). So assume Chev and Ford would have had similar setups.
Probably more interested in what would have been available to factory backed race teams, aftermarket etc.
Movie scene frame attached that sparked my curiosity 😎

Not certain about Holley, but electric chokes were available for Stromberg and Zenith carbs, both as O.E. and aftermarket, at least as early as 1937.

The 1937 Cord, for one, had an electric choke as original equipment.

Good eye.
Maybe you can spot it during the real dyno testing for lemans. Kinda cool.

I worked with GEORGE WILSON (RIP) who was one of the Engine Dyno Engineers who ran that Le Mans Simulation equipment at the Ford Motor Company Dyno Lab for the years that Ford participated in the race in the 1960s. George was a Emissions Senior Engineer vs a Dyno Engineer when I worked with him.

If you look at the engine in the 2020 movie and the carb on the engine you will see the later model Holley "Race Bowls" on the carb and electric choke vs the 'Le Mans" Bowls and Manual Cable Choke Carbs which were actually run on the engines. And the dyno work would be on the Ford Dynos vs in a Hot Rod Shop. Actual Le Mans carb list # carb in the pictures provided. Race engines in that period would have been configured as in the pictures I provided.

You missed the ceramic coated headers also. Period correct was VHT White.

Other than ease of installation I never got the electric choke thing
- a properly set up bimetallic choke would always have the right setting for a given temp.

I noticed it looked like a later model carb also.

Back in 1970-71 the speed shop I bought a lot of parts from picked up a bunch of Holley 812 cfm DPs in GM boxes that had a divorced choke. Ran good on my 409 until I bumped to dual quads.

Skip, I have a couple of 1967 L-88 vacuum secondary divorced choke carbs and they are all correct pieces.

How about the fuel line routing? As discussed in another thread, my Holley has "Ford style" fuel bowls - fuel pump feeds the drivers side on the primary side, and the line that feeds the secondary side exits the passenger side in the front and enters the secondary bowl on that side. (Line runs past the choke)

Cheers for the replies everyone, good to know I am not the only one who cringes on "technicalities" in car movies LOL
Like the 14 speed gearboxes in "Days of Thunder" HaHa,
I had hoped Hollywood would have got a bit better at checking, especially in a gear head movie

Of course "Worlds Fastest Indian" is still the best of all time (New Zealander of course )

Thanks for the link to the Ford dyno session, a great watch, and thanks Tom for the pics.

We did research the LeMans bowl extensively when looking for solutions for fuel slosh at over 3G for Jetsprint applications
In the end we used a fully divided fuel bowl, utilizing 2x needle and seat and 2x floats per bowl.
